A defibrillator is to be install in one of the south’s busiest tourist areas to help speed up responses to medical emergencies.

A special unit is to be set up in Playa Fañabé by Adeje Council. It will be manned by civil protection volunteers and equipped with a state of the art portable defibrillator for use in heart attacks.

In the coming months the equipment will also be installed at other beaches in the area.

The corporation adopted the decision unanimously yesterday after an in depth debate on insurance cover for personnel who are called on to intervene with the defibrillator.
