Tighter drug detection controls at Tenerife South Airport have led to the arrest of a 33-year-old Romanian woman.

The woman was a passenger on a scheduled flight from Madrid. She was questioned by customs officials as she was leaving the arrivals hall and her responses made officers suspicious.

Nothing was found in the initial search of her luggage, but after a more thorough check with scanning equipment, a false bottom was discovered in her case containing over one kilo of high-grade cocaine for distribution in Tenerife.
