The new beach at Playa de San Juan is expected to open next month, according to the council in Guia de Isora.
Work on the 3 million euro project, which is being financed by central government, should be completed on schedule. The construction company Acciona says the remaining jobs are essentially to spread sand on the beach and finish the changing rooms. The council has made the San Juan beach its flagship project and anticipates that the vastly improved amenity will be popular with locals as well as tourists.

The first fun dog show organised by The Santiago del Teide Branch of Asociación San Francisco de los Animales for Pedigree and Non Pedigree dogs in Los Gigantes on Sunday, 27th January 2008 turned out to be a huge success and great fun for all who took part. There was a very good turn out of both dogs and spectators. The event was held at an ideal venue, the car park by the old police station behind the Los Gigantes Hotel.
The refreshment kiosk, book stall and entry fees raised close to €1500. This money will go towards the care for abused and abandoned animals.
