The British Embassy has updated its guidance on taxation for Britons who are resident in Spain, following the recent Royal Decree that reinforces an existing obligation on all residents in Spain – both Spanish and foreign nationalities alike – to file an annual informative declaration of assets held overseas. The Decree allows for tougher penalties for non-compliance.

What is certainly true is that the changes will affect everyone resident in any European country and, in particular, people from countries such as the UK who are living on foreign shores.

The Lions Club – Santiago del Teide are holding their Charter Night this year at El Marques, Puerto Santiago on Saturday 23rd February. As in previous years the event will be a full sit down buffet followed by cabaret & dancing till late. The evening starts at 7.00 pm for 7.30 pm sit down. Anyone that has experienced an El Marques Buffet will know what an amazing selection of food they provide.
In addition to the cabaret which features the popular entertainers, Gavin Nicholas & Tony Kay, there will be our usual Euro note draw with great prizes donated by local businesses.
This promises to be a great fun night & with the price of the tickets still held at 30 euros per person & including half a bottle of wine per person it is excellent value. There will be Happy Hour at the bar & Dress Code for the evening is Smart Casual.
As it will be Carnaval time in Los Gigantes why not start the evening with us & then, after midnight, move down to the Plaza & enjoy the fun there .

The Lions Club – Santiago del Teide in collaboration with with Santiago del Teide – Social Services Department are organising a Grand Benefit Dinner at The Hotel Costa Los Gigantes on Saturday 24th November at 7.30 pm in favour of the Santiago del Teide Lions Club Charity Funds. The proceeds from the event will go towards supporting local families in the present times of great need. Tickets for the Dinner are priced at 20 euros each & include the excellent sit down buffet & half a bottle of wine per person.
Top Class Entertainment is also included & there will be a Grand Raffle during the evening with great prizes donated by local businesses. Dress code for the evening will be smart casual.

Pay up or get out in 10 days

Tenants who are in arrears with their rent can be evicted within ten days if they are not able to present a reasonable explanation before a judge.

This is just one of the measures contained in a bill entitled “Measures for Promoting Flexibility and Giving Impetus to the Rental Housing Sector”, which has been put into force, by the Spanish Council of Ministers.

In the past regulations forced the landlord to sue in court and obtain a judgment for eviction due to non-payment of rent. This was a very lengthy process, and right up to the last minute, the tenant could pay something and avoid eviction.

The new law sets a deadline of ten days for the tenant to pay their outstanding rent, and if they do not, a judge can terminate the contract immediately, without further proceedings.

The completion of the process will be by order of the judge, instead of a decree issued by the clerk of the court.

British Embassy warns homeowners to ensure they rent properties in accordance with Spanish law

Homeowners who rent out their properties to holidaymakers are being warned they could face huge fines unless they comply with Spanish law.
