El Rincon Canario Alcala

  • Hi everyone,  This is the first time I have ever written a restaurant review, but this little gem of a restaurant deserves a huge mention.  It is situated in Alcala - if you are driving from Los Gigantes it is the second turning on the right - just past ?Tony?s Restaurant? down a little side street on the right-hand side.

It is owned by a lovely and extremely helpful couple - Janis is a friendly  English lady who works front of house and her delightful Husband is Bulgarian chef ?Del Boy?!

Where do I start?  Well the Starter's would be a good place - there must be about 20 different dishes to choose from all costing 3 euro.  My Husband had spare ribs and proclaimed them 'fantastic'.  I chose fresh fish cubes cooked in batter - delicious!.  For our main courses my Husband had chicken wrapped in smoked bacon on skewers and I had fresh tuna.  (caught that morning in Alcala).  Both dishes were superb - all food is cooked fresh and you could definitely tell.  The price of main courses is hard to believe - the most expensive being fillet steak costing 8 euro.  For these prices, to be brutally honest we weren't expecting fine dining, but the presentation and taste was superb.  The portions are quite large so we couldn't manage a desert.  This little gem is well worth a visit - you won't be disappointed.  The restaurant is open seven days from 6.30pm

Just a word of warning - we dined here with four of our friends on Saturday night and had to wait a very long time for our food to arrive.

  • I am pleased someone else likes this place we have been going for a couple of years now and really like it, just one word of advice though,  Del cooks all the food while you are there so sometimes it can take a little time. I personally think a night of Tapas is better than main courses but that is just personal opinion as the main meals are also excellent and very reasonably priced. The couple are so obliging and if you are a large party and arrange in advance they will cook whatever you request.

  • Many thanks for this great review.  We are coming out again in March. We tend to eat out most nights and are always looking to try different restaurants.  We will definitely try El Rincon.  When we were over last May we tried Toni's and very much enjoyed the food.  If anyone has any other recommendations please post them.

  • We have just returned from 2 weeks in LG and during that time we dined twice in this restaurant. There were 4 of us and each one of us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We were made to feel so welcome by Janice and 'Del'. We all had starters including the home made meatballs which were delicious. The main courses, chicken and bacon skewers, sea bass and lamb chops were excellent. The menu is very varied and caters for all. I agree there is a wait for your meal to arrive but can honestly say it is well worth it! Anyway it gives an excuse to have another bottle of their delicious wine! The second time we went we had bread and mojo sauce, 4 starters, 4 main courses and 4 bottles of wine, all for just 90 euros! And a free shot at the end of our meal! Would def recommend this lovely restaurant! We will certainly be eating there again in the summer!

  • Rang to book a table 8 times over 3 days last week, but only got answer phone, which only repeated the number i had dialled (the one given on this page and confirmed on the internet) with no mention of the restaurant name. Left name and number with no response. Also e-mailed, again no reply! Time trouble and expense all to no avail. Not very business like. Must be doing very well if they can ignore potential customers!!
I wonder how many other bookings they have lost.

  • So I should go out to Alcala not knowing whether they have closed down, on holiday, or fully booked when they can't be bothered to answer the phone or return calls and e-mails? I don't think so! There are too many good restaurants in and around LG for me to do that.
