Mayor Ramos in Deep Water?

  • Although both the companies who submitted tenders to supply drinking water for Santiago del Teide included a cut in price to the consumer in their proposals, the price of water for the inhabitants of the municipality will not decrease - according to a statement by Mayor Juan Gorr'edn Ramos in an interview with the El Dia newspaper.

He confirmed that the price will stay as it is because in that way the local council will be able to settle a 900,000 euros debt to the Entemanser company over the 10 year period they have been contracted to manage the now privatized water supply.

  • Gigi, unless I have read your article incorrectly it says that Entemanser SA will waive the 900,000 Euro's when they have the contract. So pray what is this paying back over 1o years all about. Is it another case of people in high places speaking with forked tongues.

  • I agree its confusing Edward Bear -  but  you also have to take into account that this was cobbled together from various Spanish newspaper reports  that I have translated (as faithfully as I can) about the saying and doings in the council chamber and outside it!
The illustrious Alcalde doesnt deign to give interviews to the likes of us (I have asked before for quotes by the way)
I think you have to pick your way amongst the rhetoric and draw your own conclusions.

  • I am amazed that the silence from the mayor is absolutely deafening. What does one have to do to get an answer from this mans office. I guess it will be interesting come election time.

  • It is fortunate that the residents of Santiago del Teide are patient as we are still waiting for a response from the man at the top.

  • I am reliably informed that Stevie Gerald is to be the new Brit liaison officer for the Mayor although he has not yet taken up his duties, perhaps he will get our questions answered? Watch this space eh Teddy!

  • Although it is none of my business (as I live in Wales) Iwould like to say that Steve Gerald will (when elected)  be a great asset to Tenerife. I have only met him twice while on holiday in your lovely island but Steve  seems to care passionately for Tenerife and has the interests of thje local spanish people as well as the brits foremost.

Now, now Edward ..I'm sure Janey (being a northern girl, and I don't mean from Santa Cruz) is only being curious.  I know some bloke who used to live in Preston who is VERY curious ::)

  • Talking about curiosity GB I am fascinated how you knew Janey was from the North as nothing is shown in her profile  to that effect. Mmmmm ?

  • Ah ! Elementary my dear Edward....methinks the clue may be located within the 'Where do you live' thread.

I am not going to let any little thing get in my way and I would gladly share a shower with Jennifer Lopez.

    (Yeah, in my dreams)

  • AHA Now I know why on the 26th December ! 265 euros was taken out of or account by Entemenser ! the new water company ! !!!
Dont worry we flipped !!! and got the bank to put it back !

BE CAREFULL EVERYONE ! check your water bills by this new company , they are amking a lot of mistakes !!

On carefull investigation, we found we had been charged for the whole building we live in !! 14 apartments in total !

We are still battling with Entemenser to get this taken off our water records !!
SO BE WARNED ! check your bills.
