LOS GIGANTES

  • 20 years ago the area of Los Gigantes was known as the 'posh end' and Guia de Isora was thought to be really down market.  Gawd, how times have changed!!  Now the premier resorts in this area are Playa San Juan with its beach, plus 5-star hotel, and Alcala with its promenade walkway and 5-star hotel.  Los Gigantes has one four star hotel and there are three more on the coast in Santiago del Teide.   The whole area looks tired and run down.  Concenasa in Los Gigantes for example, plus empty retail locales. Dead cacti in the planters in Calle Hibisco - sorry, the grass weeds are thriving.  Street lights that don't come on until 21.30 - plenty of time for a mugging or two-then?  Cllr Mc Kenna is the only Councillor on the Ayuntamiento not to receive any remuneration - and he is the only non-Spanish Councillor!!  So, in a nutshell, the Alcade appears not to give a s*** about Los Gigantes, Peurto de Santiago and Playa de Arena as he knows there are more votes - therefore, his power - in the non-touristic areas of his Ayuntamiento?s area, e.g. Tamaimo, Arguayo, Valle Ariba etc.  So, you ex-pats reading this, iif you care about Los Gigantes register on the Empadronamiento at the Town Hall in Playa de la Arena so next time there are elections you can vote for anyone other than the current Alcalde Snr Ramos Gorin.  YOUR VOTE IS A DEMOCRATIC RIGHT.

  • Once again, a great holiday in los gigantes, I just have to say when we  were walking around, we did notice the streets were very clean and  all the new  plants  were lovely. So  i  don't  know  were you have been or your  blind  but the  whole  area is  a credit to tenerife. When we were in the Mistingate Clive the  owner  was telling  us  the problem in Concansa  was that the owners of the flats had not  paid for the work too be done and the  mayor has  done  is  very  best to  resolve  the  problem.
Reading  your 2 post i don't  think you care  about  los  gigantes or the  hard  working  people  who  live and work  there.
    Viva  los  gigantes

  • The power of Los Gigantes.com is AMAZING.  The street lights are now coming on much earlier in Calle Hibisco and though the dead cacti have NOT been removed from the planters some of the weeds have - mind you, not all!!   Utopia? No, LG is still looking tired - about time the council got the landlords together and banged a few heads!!  Surely, some rent is better than none - many of the locale property owners are just plain too greedy when people enquire about rents.  And, the same goes for absentee apartment landlords - hope the property crunch gets them all!!  Hee! Hee!!!  VM2

  • Well, good news!!  The LG planters by the bus station on Calle Hibisco have today been totally replanted and tidied up.  And, it all looks great!!  Well done, Alcalde!   :)

  • Well, folks, the gardeners obviously didn't get the weed roots out before replanting the planters and, in parts,  the weeds are growing faster than the plants!!
