  • "The death of democracy is not likely to be an assassination from ambush. It will be a slow extinction from apathy, indifference, and undernourishment."

But with guardians of democracy such as JB and Seb we call all sleep easy in our beds.

Seb, you have had much to say about what is wrong with Los Gigantes, so why are you supporting the man who is responsible for everything you have complained  about.  Is it because Brits like you have such low standards?

Why vote for more of the same. ldblquote They screw it up and theyquote re corrupt. Theyquote ve had their chance for 30 years, since democracy returned.dblquote

    Its just not cricket.

  • Falstaff,  whats wrong with los gigantes, they have have it very nice, and it is well looked after. every time  we  come over, los  gigantes is clean and  tidy. I know  sometimes of the year  it is quiet, which is  great for us, but not the the local business people, but other  times of the year its  very very busy. the  crime rate must be 0%, i  have never  seen any bag snatches or murders or  shootings
which  happen every day here in the UK. I think falstaff if your unhappy with the place you live in YOU  should  move.
p.s. ghod i think your great and you speak from your heart like jb does too, not  like  falstaff who speaks  from his pocket .  I hope i dont go like falstaff when i get  old :)

  • Hello JB,
Those of us who live here and pay our dues and taxes have every right to, as you say bitch.
You are right in saying it does not matter who gets in so long as they improve the county of Santiago del Teide  for us all . Maybe if you lived here you might take a different view.

  • Edward Bear,
I do live here and have done for many years,  I am well aware of the fact that things get promised by all sorts of politicians, some good, and some bad.
However all of us should  vote for who we think could do the best job, as I will.  I don't like all the back stabbing, toing and froing. People need to grow up, if thats possible.  Jb

  • Surely JB You should Know that Teddybare , Judgedread, falsestuff, are all linked to the same sad little timezone that we can only visit on this forum. They do nothing but continually moan about everything so it would not really matter to which Political party they affiliated themselves to.

  • I read very recently about a survey of holiday makers passing through Tenerife South airport which indicated that a significant proportion of tourists to the Island now book their holidays through the internet.

Given the importance of tourism to Santiago del Teide, wouldnquote t it be a rather good idea for the local council to abandon its very recently designed Spanish only website and design one which British  tourists can understand. It would also be jolly useful for their now much valued foreign residents to find out through the website about council services.

I am not hopeful that the council will do this however knowing how much trouble they had recently grappling with the concept of the wheel.  Also, the council is run by a nationalist group which believes that the tail should wag the dog and all tourists should learn to speak Spanish.

Just compare the Santiago del Teide Council website with the Arona Council website.

    http://www.steide.com/ayto/ayuntamiento/ayuntamiento.html

    http://www.arona.org/portal/fdes_d4_v1.jsp?codMenu=102&language=en

And if you live in Arona and want to learn Spanish they run a three month Spanish course for foreigners for only 50 Euroquote s which is advertised on their website. They also run English and German courses for Spanish speakers.

  • Yes there are many commercial websites offering accommodation to people who have decided where they want to have a holiday. But what about the thousands of people who havenquote t made up their minds?

The point I was trying to make was that there is a role to be played by the local Council to promote tourism on behalf of Santiago del Teide on the web, which is not being played at all. The Council provides no information whatsoever in English or German for potential tourists visiting the area.

Contrast this with the competition, say, Puerto de la Cruz where the Council has an excellent multi-lingual website promoting the town to English and German tourists. You can download tourist information guides and maps in English or German  and watch professional promotional videos (remember the man from the Laderas de Argel video) .

    http://www.puertodelacruz.es/puerto/front_end/videos.php

Santiago del Teide Council is so far behind the competition. If I ran a struggling business in Los Gigantes which relied on visitors, Iquote d be very dissatisfied with the Councilquote s tourism strategy.

  • Top marks to the designer of the Losgigantes.com website. It is the number one choice for the English version of Google when searching for ldblquote Los Gigantesdblquote . Virtually any search which includes ldblquote Los Gigantesdblquote  will throw up Losgigantes.com.

But the Councilquote s website (www.steide.com) does not appear anywhere in Googlequote s search results when searching for ldblquote Los Gigantesdblquote . Even if you search for  ldblquote Santiago del Teidedblquote  on the English version of Google you will probably have given up before you come across the Councilquote s website on  Page 8.

As a tourist I have looked on the excellent Tenerife Island Council website for a link to the Santiago del Teide Council website but without success. There is a link, but to an outdated web address which draws a blank.

Mrs Falstaff is forever telling me that if you canquote t find something when you need it, then itquote s not worth having.
