DOG MUCK EVERYWHERE

  • I come to Los Gigantes 1-2 times a year and stay at El Marques. The road leading down to the chicken shack is absolutely appalling with dog muck everywhere. When is it all going to be cleaned up? We pay enough money for our holidays there for them to do something about it, i know it's down to the owners of dogs to clean the mess up but they just don't do they. I know lots of people do clean up after their dogs but it is obvious that lots don't, it's disgusting. Not only are you dodging the dog muck but the paths are absolutely filfthy and greasy, surely the council can come in every month to clean this place up?

    Far from it Wayne!

My comment was somewhat tongue in cheek, as there are often discussions under the local politics section aimed at councillors asking for either information or with suggestions of things that could be done to improve things.

Interestingly, as you will note by reading back, there is rarely any response from anyone in the know.

Given the discussions elsewhere on the board about improving the area, I do think it would be a positive move if, once in a while, some answers to the many sensible (and occasional stupid!) questions asked here.

Perhaps with DD being in regular contact with Steve she could respond on his behalf.  He never replies to my emails!

    I have a question too.

With the improvement works around the Plaza in Puerto Santiago now declared illegal and unlikely to continue, should we expect the contractor involved to at least spend some time clearing away their work sheds and taking down all the unsightly netting and putting things back to some sort of order, or is everything going to be left there to gradually fall to bits?

Enjoyed a quiet beer at the bar yesterday afternoon - it is an unwholly mess at the moment.

  • Agreed Mr Max, the area around the plaza could certainly do with a bit of a tidy up although it has had the appearance of a piece of waste land for many years now. A return to a more 'natural' setting would be a welcome improvement. Unfortunately we will probably be left with the source of unpleasant odours lingering in that area now.

Re: 'dog muck' - you just have to be very careful where you step as you go - somewhat more difficult after dark. Down to inconsiderate owners and a few dogs allowed to wander as they please. It is the same almost everywhere though.

  • We've done dog muck and the Lago PS before, and now graffiti.

What we havent done before is get the "official" view - that would be MOST interesting!

  • I was very pleased to read last week of the Council?s plans to fund a Chair Lift  from the Marina to the top of the cliffs (see the photograph below) but I was rather concerned to read that people would be allowed to  take their dogs up with them.  Could this be a devious way for the Council to c**p on us all again from a great height?

  • Loyalty to one?s friends is an admirable quality Ghod.  Being a Councillor is a thankless duty and Steve Mckenna appears to be a very genuine and hardworking  public servant. The trouble is that an unrealistic expectation was created of him among the British community to win votes  prior to the last election, which he could not possibly live up to and perhaps the chickens are now coming home to roost.  In reality, the Mayor is in control and there is only so much influence that Councillor McKenna can exert.  Maybe that should have been explained at the time?

As I recall Ghod, you have also posted messages about  the dog muck problem. Has there been an improvement since Steve was elected?

    Several points.

I thought the objective of this site was to create an open forum for discussions about, amongst other things, local issues.  There are already some questionable issues relating to the posting of useful links on the grounds of them being considered advertising. Fair play, if the owners/moderators wish to keep it that way then that is their business even though some of us believe it probably works against the effectiveness of the web-site overall.

Many people cannot get to see Steve in his office due to work commitments and other issues.  In this day of electronic communications I see nothing wrong with local people posting their thoughts here.  It invokes discussion, which is surely what this place is all about.

Despite the other restrictions imposed, I for one feel it would do no harm for residents to post their comments, good or bad, about the area on here.  Not only does it invoke discussion, it can also provide some useful answers to questions and/or points of view.

In fact, the board is an ideal opportunity for Steve to answer some of those questions openly here, or to inform the local community of projects underway or under consideration by the Council.  The benefits of this being that if at every meeting he holds there is a string of people wanting answers to the same question then one could argue that is not a good use of his limited time.

I cannot believe Steve does not read this board.  From previous postings we are led to believe he is in regular contact with the LG office.  So, again the suggestion that perhaps Steve or someone on his behalf might like to come on here occasionally and answer questions or inform in advance might be beneficial and help to give the board the proverbrial kick up the bum it so desperately needs?

Might I suggest that LG asks Steve for his thoughts and whether he feels he has the time to come on here occasionally?  If he does, fair play on him and we can all look forward to hearing some, hopefully positive, news from time to time.  If not.... well that is up to us to draw our own individual conclusions as to why....

    Just my thoughts

Sadly neither are appropriate for this board.

Seriously though, why is it that people cannot have an adult conversation and ask grown up questions like those above without suffering from childish and unfounded comments.

No wonder this board is so quiet these days.  Such a shame.

Oh, and for your information, I have had a couple of meetings with Steve in his office.  My point was that there are many who are not free when he is and even more who might welcome his contributions to this forum. You never know, he might have some good news for us from time to time!

On second thoughts, with comments like yours I can understand why he may prefer to stay away.

I would also like to thank you for your kind invitation to return to the UK.  Sadly though, having been here for some years, I'd rather not if it's all the same!

  • Over the past few weeks there have been some very good valid points on this board.  So much so that we have had a very good meeting with Steve Mckenna about the possibility of him coming on this forum to answer questions on behalf of the Ayuntamiento.   Like most others here, running a business, there are not enough hours in the day and he does not want to participate on a daily basis.  However, he is happy to answer a list of questions, on say a monthly basis, his answers will be posted on this board.

We must be aware that he will not be able to directly answer every question, but he will pass them on to those who can.

I am currently working on a NEW BOARD, specifically for the questions.  It will be available for use after the weekend.

  • Sounds good, Dolly.  I just hope ghod doesn't discourage Steve with his unhelpful and often insulting comments.  By the way, I visited Steve last week re "Traffic Hazards" (see separate posting in this section) and he was very attentive.  He agreed that my points were valid and that something would be done about it.
