Credit where its due.

  • As you know, I am not a big fan of the Mayor and the local Council, but give credit where it is due.

On my visit to the Council offices at Santiago del Teide I was very impressed by the Christmas decorations which had a very traditional Christian theme. It?s sad to say that many local authorities in the UK are too PC to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. We went into the Council Chamber and saw the Councillors at work (see the photograph on the far right -the Mayor is the big guy on the left).

We also called into the church at Santiago del Teide on Christmas Day and the nativity scene was excellent.

  • Falstaff, what happened to the lights in the square . Last year there were festooned lights in the square ,this year nothing. Los Gigantes is rapidly becoming the poor relation. Also whilst I am in whinging mode what has happened to the minusvalido parking places in the village. There is only one that is painted blue and that is on the corner of Beach Road. In an area where the average age is is somewhere retirement I believe this is an area which is sadly neglected.
In conclusion ,Falstaff, I agree that the church in Santiago del Teide is beautiful at any time of the year however there is still much work to be done in the county.

  • Edward, I was momentarily and uncharacteristically overcome with festive spirit.  I thought that I must say something good about the Council after the terrible time they?ve had recently and everything I said about them last year. How could I have been so nice? I can assure you Edward, it won?t happen again.

Although the Council offices were nicely decorated, that was about it. The tree and decorations in the square at Los Gigantes were rather poor but many of the commercial establishments put on a good display - the Los Gigantes Hotel in particular.

  • It?s quite a pretty sight driving through Playa Arena and Puerto Santiago at night at the moment, but I think the Ayuntamiento ran out of decorations by the time they reached Los Gigantes. Very sad.  I for one will be bending Councillor Stevie?s ear when I see him next, as will many other people according to what I am hearing.

  • I agree that it seems more effort was put into Playa la Arena and Puerto Santiago than Los Gigantes and even the Christmas programme of entertainment was a let down. In all the years I have lived here I have never known there to be nothing on in the Los Gigs plaza on Christmas eve!!!!!!! What's happening?
