I totally second everything youíve said Mary. nophead you and your ilk are doing nothing more than lowering the uptake of the vaccine, knocking the UK where you grew up and presumably took advantage of their eduction system and smugly sit in Tenerife. Do you seriously believe that TENERIFE hasnít also got the South African virus running through it??. As has every country worldwide. Itís only because the U.K. leads the field in verť one sequencing that this South African variant was discovered. Yes, UK have made mistakes, but would you have been able to do any better??? I doubt it. Iím glad Iím in UK protected by the NHS and have had the vaccination. Good luck with getting back to UK.

No idea why you would think I wouldn't get a vaccine when offered but what I want is my life back so I can socialise with who I want and go where I want. It is ridiculous that are social lives are controlled by governments and people are fined for having parties or travelling to take some photos.

There have always been mutating viruses making us ill and bumping of the unhealthy ones but now the world stops for how long? Looks like 18 months to two years. Bonkers.

Well the quickest way to get your life back is stick to the rules and man up. You sound like a petulant child ďwhat I want is my life backĒ  so do we all, but sometimes I want doesnít get, and itís people like you who moan and moan who grind the rest of us down. Just shut up and if Britain and itís government isnít to your taste then for goodness sake flipping move somewhere else where you can do what you want.

Well nophead, no I would say it is not bonkers, but your attitude is crazy, it appears you know better than the WHO, you sound as biais as JA on her site, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I was offering you advice about getting home, you may not be self isolating as you say, it appears the Government are under pressure to enforce the return home into Hotel isolation to every Country and I know how you like to save your pennies, but Ok it will only cost you £1750.00 each if they do.

Yes that could happen but it makes no sense. There hasn't even been a new case here in SDT for 21 days, whereas in my home village, with about the same population there have been 14 in the last 7 days.

We can afford it, so not a big problem except far more likely to catch it being bussed to a hotel full of people from all over instead of getting a private taxi to our own home. Good job we don't live in Scotland.

How wrong you are! When we were out there for 10 months after the pandemic first struck, we had figures printed on Facebook regularly. However, we had a couple of lads, neighbours, contracted the virus, attended Pancracio gym, didnít bother isolating until one of them became really poorly. Neither of them were included in figures and the gym stayed open initially. Another near neighbour caught it, again not included in the figures. If you think the South African strain isnít everywhere you are deluded, but whatever you do for gods sake donít come back to UK. We are a largely united band, desperately trying to cope and get through this, and we will. But naysayers like you bring us all down. Thanks

Yes I am sure the SA and Kent strains are here and the SA strain is definitely on the UK, so why do we need quarantine and travel bans. They don't work.

Nophead, and I thought you were an intelligent person ( we don't need quarantine and travel bans ). Why do you think the virus spread across the UK, because unlike other Countries we did not close our borders soon enough.

You, your wife and anybody you know or meet could be carrying the virus with no symptoms at all and spread it, as far as I am concerned we should have closed our borders months ago, & quarantined everybody that wanted to come here, we would not have had the escalation & the awful figures we now have.

But at least we have shown the rest of the World how to roll out a vaccine programme.

I think the winter figures are nothing to do with travel. Kent came up with a new strain and cold weather forces people indoors. Schools and colleges open and Christmas helped to spread it.

Basically you can have everything closed and stay at home and numbers go down, or you can live a normal life and numbers go up exponentially. I prefer the latter.

So what you are saying let's do nothing, just let the virus run uncontrolled thought the world.

It does not matter if the NHS cannot cope, which no other Countries health services have also,  let's just hope you never need their help or services.

All I can say is thank god I don't have to rely on you making any decisions in my life.

Yes like every other virus before it because the alternatives are far worse since governments decided they could control it but actually they can't. An expert today said the Kent strain will take over the world so Spain banning Brits is like King Canute.

It's all about managing the Virus, that is all the governments can do, to keep the hospitals going and stop the bodies piling up at the undertakers. Just pleased that Boris and Hancock (tony), seem to have ordered nearly 500 million Vaccine doses! I find it odd that given they mucked up on PPE, and many many other medical things, that they end up with more doses than the other 26 countries we have left in the EU.
I believe they probably wanted 50 million doses, but some junior ministers secretary the age of about 17, no doubt got the nervous internet finger and pressed send 10 times due to a slow unresponsive internet!!
And there you go, suddenly got 500 million coming next week. I know this is entirely feasible as I have done the same with an online Viagra order.

Nophead, your do nothing about a virus is madness, the last virus ebola which again started in another area Africa, which almost killed everybody that caught it old & YOUNG

If the rest of the world had not come together to find a vaccine it would have spread across the world killing anybody & everybody, the only difference this time the Chinese tried to keep covid quite & cover it up & is why it spread so much around the world.

Pilgrim, I was listening to the radio last night with eminent scientists from different vaccine labs, the UK government have ordered & paid for 400 million vaccines mainly from AZ, Phizer & Moderna also they are backing a couple of small specialist companies for the mutation vaccines, way ahead of the world again.

They also said the UK has invested 900 million pounds in the initial set up for the vaccine, while the rest of Europe had committee after committee taking months to agree & why they are so far behind the UK with the roll out of the vaccine.

As for your viagra over order they must be working buying an MGB & a Lambretta to cold for me & I would never get the wife on the back. I took her camping once that was the first & last time that ever happened again.

I realise some people are saying they prefer to be in LG than UK with lockdown. We for sure are happy we are here, but really missing Tenerife, think we have been going so long it is in our DNA now. Here we can see family within bubble, and get those jobs done, and continue with hobbies for those that do. But when over will be on first flight out. Unhappy, wife not will pillion on the Lambo, it is already to slow. Life was a lot more gentler in 1963! She is okay in the MG, only because she doesn't realise that it doesn't have a roll bar!
God forbid! These are our Golden years, and not to be taken lightly. So we try to live our lives according to the American Constitution - Freedom, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

No Ebola doesn't spread quickly because it far less infectious and far more deadly. Probably no asymptomatic cases. It wasn't stopped by vaccines.

If we get a virus that is as deadly as Ebola but spreads as easily as the Kent strain then we are really in trouble. I would definitely stay at home then.

Linda I have to disagree with you about everybody wearing masks, I have been looking at the videos of different areas throughout the Island for months, most beaches & pavements hardly anybody is wearing masks.

Most people I see do wear masks around town and when they go into shops and bars, etc. A lot don't wear them out of town, for example on the path to Alcala, or up in the hills. And they don't wear them on beaches because you don't have to when sunbathing and swimming, only when walking to your spot.

So you are confirming what I am seeing, people are not wearing masks when they should, I am not talking about people sunbathing, I am talking about people walking around the beach & people walking around the pathways the majority without masks.

The post inferred that people in the UK were not wearing masks, my wife & myself take a walk around a river path within walking distance from our home, even some people are wearing masks on our walk.

The UK might have been slow stopping people coming to our country & masks, but at least we got our act together concerning the vaccination of its population, which is a hell of a lot more than Tenerife.

Well if you go swimming how to do you not walk across the beach without a mask? You can't take it with you as it will get wet in the sea. When people get out they go for a shower. So again they can't wear or even carry a mask as there is nowhere to put it while showering.

On the paths people jog and cycle. They don't need a mask for exercise, so I expect some people walking for exercise think the same.

We wear ours except when we are hiking up trails and then we only put it on when passing somebody. However its pretty pointless outside when you can keep your distance.

On the streets most people wear masks. A few of the older men wear them on their chins though for some reason.
