Can anyone give me directions to the start of this walk please? Where would we have to get off the bus.  We have walked from Tamaimo down the mountain several times  over the years but now fancy  walking that
little bit further from Santiago  del Teide.
Thanks.

From tamaimo, drive on up to Santiago del teide and you will see black horse and cart outside restaurant rhs. O almost opposite there is a signpost “Tamaimo” and Puerto Santiago and that’s the pathway. Enjoy, it’s more rugged above Tamaimo so I find walking pole advantageous

Get off the bus at the stop called consultorio, which is the surgery. The walk starts at a signpost a few yards south of that on the other side.

Thank you all for your replies.  With your directions I've  now been able to look at Google Street view and locate the  start.

One of the best walks  we've  been on anywhere was the walk from  Santiago del Teide to Masca.  Lovely area for walking.

Thanks again for your  help.

We love to stop in Tamaimo for lunch at the Arepera Girasol. They do a great pork stew.

It is "an OK" walk but there are better ones in the area to do. I would suggest you start early if walking down as by lunchtime  it gets hot in the sun. Start at the bottom and walk up is better as it gets cooler  the higher you go. It was about 12 c  up there on Tuesday morning at 9am.

AWOL.  What walks would  you suggest please?  We have done the walks to Masca and Erjos pools.
Agree about the heat  we always catch the first bus up there. No fun walking when it's  too hot.
The walks can be from Los Gigantes if you have any. The only one we really know is the one to Alcala.
Thanks

Go up to Santiago del Teide and walk over the mountain to Arguyo, lovely walk with beehives, broom and wonderful views en route. Finishes in old donkey track, cobbled. Refresh and walk back. Or from Tamaimo take donkey track up off Main Street to Arguyo. You pass dug outs from Franco war, look down into where new motorway cuts through countryside, past kennels for hunting dogs. Uphill, but not too strenuous. Walk from Guía to Chirche, or down in reverse if prefer.

Go to El Medano and climb up Montana Roja and down other side onto beach, fabulous views, quite windy of course, then walk back round base of mountain. Beautiful.

Angiebabes is right there are some great walks from Guia de Isora. I've found details of the walks in the local tourists offices. Great walking country now from Santiago del Teide through to El Tanque, probably why the first 325 out of Los Gigantes in the morning is busy. Again lots of information in the local tourist offices. Guide books for walks in the area are readily available for sale on the internet. Best time to go is when there is a snow covered El Teide as a backdrop.

while on the subject of walking, does anyone know if the Barranco del Infierno has been reopened as a " at walkers risk " walk.

www.wikiloc.com is an excellent resourse to use for worldwide hikes.
You can download the app as well and if you register and pay a small fee you can actually download any hike you want to do and follow it on your phone if you want instant directions as well as record them.

We have hiked all over the area over the last 4 or so years and  have only tickled the amount of walks that can be done. We plan our hikes to work with the buses which adds a bit of interest to them.

It all depends on your ability/staminer/speed and whether you want short medium or long days out.

Noticed yesterday that the enterprising goat farmer on the path about 1 km below Tamaimo has installed a refrigerated vending machine selling coke, water, and packs of his goat cheese so take a few coins with you to help this local entrepreneur on his journey. Well done him.

P.s
Be mindful of the goat poo though!
