Title: Derelict Building
Post by: hadarusu on July 20, 2020
Does anyone have any information re derelict building on way up to The Royal Sun.? Squatters in it I guess, a complete eyesore and a great shame for owners of the new expensive villas being built by Paul Ruane. It needs to be demolished sooner rather than later.why does this not happen ?

The last time I saw it in March they had removed the squatters, bricked it up and I think it was up for sale.

Usually they aren't demolished because the developers have gone bankrupt and the local council can't afford to demolish them. So they are left until they become unsafe and a danger then central government steps, or another developer steps in. Can be a long process.

Is that what has happened to the almost demolished building in Playa de Arena?

Probably. There was a rumour that owners of Playa La Arena Hotel had purchased the site but the area thrives on rumours.

I think the one in Playa Arena has been demolished as much as it can be. What is left appears to be needed to hold up the embankment behind it.

No, recently they had another go and took some more away. Yes, there is a problem with shared party wall which in turn forms part of the original building but it canít be left for eternity as it now looks, with bits falling off regularly surely?

No bit I think it would need to be replaced with a pretty substantial retaining wall without letting the embankment collapse during the demolition and construction. I know nothing about building but it looks a bit tricky and expensive.

Apparently at the other side of the 'party wall' is a swimming pool.
