I look forward to seeing more up to date photos of how the road/pavement works are going.
We are out first week of April. Do you think work will be finished by then?
-
Can't see much chance of seeing any difference to the heart of LG this year. Maybe another 2/3.
-
Gosh Victor really!!??
I was hoping that Dolly would post some more photos. ;)
-
Sandylea ...... the only work being done at this moment is the new main sewer from Tamara down to the beach road at the harbour (since 2 October) ...it's due to finish in 2/3 weeks. After that the major renovation works to the roads, pavements, street lighting and street furniture will begin ..... I understand that this is expected to last 18mths - 2 years .... so some considerable disruption to come ...but should be worth it at the end of the day. Plus the renovation of the Lido is due this year as well....
-
So happy the lido is being worked on
Sorry to post
-
Thank you frogeddy. I think our week will be disrupted somewhat.
-
Yes, I took a couple of photos yesterday. Will post them later today.
-
The photos are excellent. Thank you. I do fear our holiday first week of April isn't going to be as pleasurable as usual because of these works and the noise from the construction of Cristal.
-
How is the new walk from the barcelo hotel to crab island coming on please
-
Very slowly. No sign of completion yet. I will take some photos next time I am passing
-
Thank you
-
Hi Dolly, any news on Masca bay pontoon repairs/re-opening.
Guess you guys are enjoying the lack of boat traffic for your dives.
-
There is no news on Masc walk opening again.
The taxi boats from Masca are never a problem to divers. We have to anchor very near the cliffs for suitable depths and the taxi boats are further out to sea. Also they know us well so keep well clear.
-
I was asked this question a few days ago "How is the new walk from the barcelo hotel to crab island coming on please"
I passed by on Sunday. There is still a lot of work to do, difficult to judge how much longer they will take.
Click on the picture below to enlarge.
-
Bloody hell!! I hadn't realised the enormous extent of the work. Why? What was wrong with how it was before? Seems a waste of money. I think our holiday next month is going to be ruined because of all of this. Glad I don't live there now.
-
I guess the owners of the villas will be looking forward to the financial compensation!
-
I for one would enjoy the walk rather than cutting through the la pergola restaurant
Are you all saying it has be paid for through your rates and tax
That is not right
-
When they did the pavement about 5 years ago down in the harbour, the businesses didn't get compensation, at least Sonia and Arthur who ran the Dolphin at that time, didn't, and they were forced to close for about 4 weeks.
-
That is not fair
-
I was being facetious. The Canarian's at Political level, are a law to themselves. If they jump on you
try to get out of the way, as it won't matter if they break your legs or business - you wont see a penny.
Like many (most) countries in the EU they don't play cricket. And seem to get away with it.
Thank God were leaving.
-
Agreed.
-
Thanks dolly
Not much has changed since our visit in December
Bit will make all the difference
-
Just returned from staying in Sansofe for 10 weeks in the complex next to the new pathway what a waste of money.
By the pace they are going it might be finished this year, they are now in the process of building up the cliffs with rocks and cement
-
It seems that there is road works all over the area. Shame they do not finish one job before starting another. Just hope none are being done by the company that did the square re tiling😂😂
-
I agree with Unhappy, a total waste of money.
-
I still cant look at it. The grey/white blocks are now filthy. Covered in mud and dog I am an idiot, why can't these
so called dog lovers be filmed and fined when fouling. And the grey ones have white blobs all over them,
where the chewing gum has been spat out and stamped on. Probably by the dog owners, waiting for their animal to have a shi#e.
-
They also ruined the courtyard in Poblado Marinero when they re-did it a few years ago. They just poured some horrid concrete over the cobbles and not evenly either. They ruined the built in plant holders. They can't seem to do anything nicely.
Where is the money for all this coming from? The EU? Maybe when we are out, the EU won't have so much to give away......
-
Booked el sombrero in March 2020 so hopefully the work will be completed by then
2 weeks away from our first visit north of the island in puerto de la cruz
Any tips from anyone would be much appreciated
-
Georgie, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, ASK US IN FEB 2020 the Island might have sunk by then with you the only resident ON IT
-
Unhappy
Sorry for upsetting you it was not meant to be
I was just asking now that we are coming up to retirement
-
How is the new walk way coming on from crab island to cappacino Marina coming on please
-
Still plenty to do
-

unhappy, i find it so strange that you have just spent 10 weeks in our area, yet have so many negative things to add to this whole site. why do you still come back to visit us? you seem to come over many times.
-
janey as you said we have been coming many times in fact the first time was when in LG there was just the Hotel & 2 Villas & we can say hand on heart the jewel of the area was the bay which should have been turned into a 6* resort not buildings half completed the cliff ripped down & left for years.
A car park built and again left for years unused and they are still building more properties that will be left empty for years again
This council since the old Mayor died are as bent as a 9 bob note they have ruined a fantastic area they are even now spending money on stupid things but they are not bothered about repairing the awful pavements, stop the car hire companies parking there cars on the roads when they are not rented.
We could go on & on but you would get bored & the reason we keep coming back, we have a lot of friends there and like most people it is always nice to have the sun on your back
-
Just booked for October in the harbour club for the first time
How are the works getting on
-
The pavement works by Tamara look awful. The wall with the rendering that was all falling off hasn't been done. Nothing at all is happening where the Cristal apartments are supposed to be going.
-
I see the Council standard of work has not improved, as for Cristal that's the 5000€ deposit gone then most likely waiting for more funds, would not touch it with a barge pole until it's completed.
-
Didn't punters lose there monies on Royal Sun when it went up!
-
Yes they did twice
-
They're trying to flog aqua suites up there too but absolutely nothings happening. Btw, the friendly dolphin has been taken over by KV gourmet so theyve got two places next to each other now. The new Italian has exactly the same menu as it's previous incarnation, rincon de Antonia.
-
....and everywhere looks a mess, plays de la arena, playa San Juan, round by the barcelo, all dug up, with diversions everywhere.
-
But this is supposed to be good for the 5* Island that the Government want I know of at least 4 restaurants that are now owned by the Chinese and usually empty and 2 more that are up for sale.
It seems that the West Coast of the Island, they could not care about any more, as long as they can build AI Hotels and get the taxes from them.
-
Chinese everywhere, waiting tables from Fanabe to Pdla, shops everywhere and hordes of their children, working as chefs in kitchens that supposedly serve authentic Canarian food all actually done by the Chinese. Bizarre.
Bradley Walsh out here at the moment staying at Ababa and filming two episodes of Dr Who at Teide. The crew are staying at barcelo Santiago.
-
Meant Abama.
-
Thanks dolly
Just returned from a week in puerto de la cruz where it rained every day
We enjoyed the holiday but los gigantes was much cleaner
The pavement had dog mess and was not cleaned
With not works going on so can't wait to go back to los gigantes
-
Well, every day here in LG has been blowing a gale.
-
Any news on the pathway from crab island to the hotel please
-
You can use it but a bit of a mess
-
Cheers
-
They have found another hole and they are looking in to it.
-
Any further news please on the on going works
Has the lido been completed yet
-
Lido will be quite a while I think. Roadworks progressing slowly .
-
Thank you
Hopefully it will be and look great
The small restaurant on site was good and the view stunning
-
I have a live webcam of the harbour, the lido & Tamara all looks very quite, the lido is totally empty & looks like an unfinished building site.
But the weather looks good.
-
Thank you for the updates Dolly.
-
So slow like the plaza - 2 years, what a joke and embarrassment!
When the local council does works takes forever. When it's contractors it is done over night!
-
The weather is the most important factor
-
I walk past these road works every day and the progress is certainly not slow. There are several teams of men working every day from 07:30 until 16:30 Monday - Friday. It's starting to get hot now and many of them are doing very heavy work with no shade laying stone tiles on the new pavements and building new walls. I'm not sure how long the work will take but it certainly won't be finished this year, but one thing for sure it is certainly going to improve the look of Los Gigantes when it is finished.
-
Not finished this year!
Got to be a joke!
-
If I recall correctly the original estimate was for two years ......
-
Thanks for the info Dolly, anything that makes the area better is worth waiting for as long as the work is of a good standard.
Have to agree with pilgrim the square is as mess & some tiles are already broken.
-
You can see what's going on (or not going on) atthe Lido at this webcam site.....
http://www.skylinewebcams.com/en/webcam/espana/canarias/santa-cruz-de-tenerife/los-gigantes.html
You can also just see the completed section of the road up from the harbour.
(Double click on the image for full screen and "ESC" to revert back.)
-
How is the walk from crab island to cappacino Marina coming coming on please
-
Very slow. Not noticed any difference in several weeks. I never get the chance to walk past there during the days so I don't know if work is going on.
-
Thank you
Let me know please if any change
-
How is crab island to la pergola restaurant coming along please
-
georgie why ?
-
All works extremely slowly. And even slower if that were possible latter end of this week, as 2 days of public holiday. If the place was not so corrupt, there would be far less inane works going on!
-
Thank you pilgrim
A decent response
-
I've just read on Janet anscombes website that the works at playa San Juan are at a standstill nearly a year on. I would be so cross if I were a business owner there. It is appalling that this disruption is still ongoing and putting tourists off the area. I am so glad we opted for Puerto de la Cruz for October for a change.
-
Dolly
Thanks for the latest update. We find it very useful. Keep up the good work!
Jilco
-
Ditto, shame the builders are not as diligent. As it may have been finished by now.
-
Its a two year project and now into 11th month. They are progressing very well
I pass them every day, there are several teams and they certainly are working. They start at 07:30 and work till 16:30. I feel sorry for them having to work in this heat!!! The last couple of days has seen a temporary tarmac surface to the road from Tamara to Calle Adelpha. That will keep the dust down.
-
Thank you for the updates Dolly. x
-
The works to the road improvement in LG are so slow, wonder why the council hate this village so much!
It has to be a deliberate policy, people say that the funds are not available so work has to slow till tax income catches up. The Plaza took 2 years to end up with a defective embarrassing block paving (in white, partly, showing every bit of chewing gum and stain). Wonder what joys are in store as no money for decent finishes to pavements etc..
Please, please, anyone who has some say, get rid of these people making these stupid corrupt decisions.
Sadly, I tell people and friends who are coming over to book elsewhere!
-
Are are the works please around barcelo hotel please
-
Oh no, Is this idiot back with their stupid questions....
-
I was a bit harsh in my criticism in the previous post! The finish of the pavements in the section that has been completed, that is the straight section of road before marina, is to a good standard, and similar in substance to the improvements made to Playa Arena.
-
Here is a picture I took this morning of the work on the new pathway around the Barcello Santiago hotel. Look like there is still a lot of work to do.
Click on pic to enlarge
-
Any updates please
-
Here now.
Suggest you ask in a year or so!!!!!!!
AWOL
-
Is it that bad
-
Seems to be. Speaking to a local waitress in the village it has been and still is a nightmare. A lot of the parking has gone so village very quiet. Walked down to harbour and beach which is nice but the road down from Simple Simons a mess.
Actually the whole area seems VERY QUIET.
Manyana! springs to mind.
AWOL
-
The council just take the P I S S, they don't care!
-
Hello,
Been reading this with interest, we're staying in Calle Pino end of January near the town end, will the roadworks close to this junction be finished by then do you think, just a bit concerned about noise thats all? What is actually being done, cosmetic or something about a new pipe? Thanks
-
The main work has been replacing all the water pipes, but the pipes which hold the electricity and phone cables have been replaced too.
It's a 2 year project and we are now into month 14. The main road which passes the Calle el Pino and Calle Adelpha junctions is now being resurfaced and I have been told it will open up to 2 way traffic. Its looking really nice now with new pavements, plants and a few new palm trees.
Keep your fingers crossed that the work will have progressed more towards the square by the time you arrive, they are currently as far as Verdes progressing towards Richardsons and the Green corner.
People living in the Florencia area have had constant noise every morning from 07:30 for 14 months now!
-
Many thanks, yes it will look nice when it's finished, when we were there last January I just thought naively it was the one road by the marina! Hopefully if they're resurfacing by Calle Pino now they will have moved away from our street towards the square. No we don't want noise at 7.30am on holiday! Is that road now going to be permanently 2 way or is it to allow them to close another road?
-
How is the pablado marinero pool and lido area coming along please
I loved swimming in the rock pool area and visiting the restaurant
-
I see the stage has been set up in the Plaza, any one know what the event is?
-
From what I gathered this am,there is a concert tomorrow evening - 20.00/20.30. The problem is that the loudspeaker van going around is always in Spanish and never very clear!
-
It is a singer and Santiago del Teide municipal band etc
-
Not sure if this has owt to do with the roadworks though?
Awol
-
Thanks Linda, will wander down later, and have a nose!
-
Is it all completed if no one has replied
-
Is it all completed if no one has replied
Are you for real?
-
Are there any updates or new photos please? Thanks
-
Hi Dolly,
Its been a while since your last update and photos, will you be taking any more soon? Thanks
-
I've actually managed to get off this Island for a well earned holiday. Went to freezing cold London, but enjoyed every minute, the lights and atmosphere were superb.......but the prices £15 for 2 coffees and a couple of cakes!!!! and tourists complain of prices here!!
Give me a couple of days and the up to date pictures of the works will be posted.....there has been good progress.
-
Thank you Dolly. Enjoy your break.x
-
......but the prices £15 for 2 coffees and a couple of cakes!!!!
Actually if any of you have seen the size of the cakes that Dolly puts away you would realise that £15 for 2 coffees and 2 of her gargantuan size cakes represents darn good value - what she didn't explain was that she was eating alone :o
-
Some pictures of the works near the Barcello today.
A lot changed since we left in March and came back in November but not a lot in the 7 weeks we have been here since. I think there is still a lot left to do.
-
Looks like their building a sea flood barrier wall, guess the owners of those beautiful villas are so pleased!
Guess they never new that would happen when they purchased.
-
I don't think there is any risk of flooding at that height. What they have done is build out over the cliff edge to get a wide enough flat area for the path and make a barrier to stop people falling over. The zigzag concrete in the foreground is a wheelchair ramp I assume. Seems a bit OTT.
-
Thanks for the new photos Dolly, some good process but I'm disappointed they are still working at Calle Pino entrance as we are staying nearby in late January so hoping it will be finished by then otherwise we may have some early mornings!
-
We are staying on Calle Pino at the moment. Not that high up and the road works are no problem whatsoever. There is a vague hum at times. Nothing at all to put us off sitting outside .
-
Thanks White Rose, we're staying about 3 houses up from the bottom so that's reassuring thanks. Hopefully they will be even further away by the end of January unless they are doing Calle Pino itself - anyone know this, or is it just the main roads? Thanks
-
Afraid I can't help you with that. At the moment some of the bottom lefthand side is fenced off as they are using it for storage. It doesnt go up as far as the second property so won't be a hinderance to you if it's still there when you arrive.
At the moment the main topic of conversation is sadly that Polly one of the four parrots has bern been missing for a week.
Going off subject we are always interested in accommodation on Calle Pino, would you point me in the direction of the site you get yours from. Thank you .
-
In answer to Paulaf - only the main road. Rumour has it that now the money has run out so don't know when Flor de Pascua road works will ever finish!! This is worse than the English soaps!!
-
Thanks both, glad its only the main roads but hope it does all get finished one day. We've not stayed in this particular apartment before so I'll come back to you later if that's ok if I would recommend it but I usually look at HomeAway, booking.com and THA http://www.tha-tenerife.co.uk/
Where do the parrots normally live?
-
Thanks paulaf. Hope the new accommodation is to your liking.
The parrots I was referring to are the resident wild ones. They have been here years. You hear them squawking all the time as they fly over in formation. There were several more than four when we first started coming here.
You will hear them all the time on Calle Pino.
-
Thanks we are really looking forward to coming and seeing some sun. Who do you normally book with please, can you send me any info? This January we stayed down in the marina so Calle Pino is new to us but seems very central. How long are you there for?
The parrots sound great we will enjoy seeing and hearing them, hope Polly reappears soon.
-
How is the works from crab island to hotel barcelo coming along
-
It is progressing but still a lot left to do. It needs a ramp at the hotel end as it currently ends about 2ft off the ground and it needs tiling all the way along the cliff. There are what look to be regular viewing points and they look like they will need glass balustrades.
-
Thank you looks like lots of work still to be done xx
-
Question for White Rose please - can you tell me who you booked your apartment with in Calle Pino if possible please? We really like ours but it's booked up already for next year so need other options. Many thanks
-
Quite a lot of progress over the last month. Looks mostly done now apart from the viewing point glass balustrades.
-
:-\\ oh.
-
I see on the webcam there's a few lorries, diggers and workmen in the lido opposite poblado. Are they just refurbishing it?
-
I was down there this morning, looks like more drainage work rather than Lido refurbishment.
-
That's a shame. We used to like it in there.
-
(https://i.imgur.com/XmGlqhB.jpg) life goes on in los gigs :)
-
Remaining carnival now stopped and being dismantled in los gigs.
-
I know we are locked down and can't go out but TripAdvisor message board are saying the lido by pablado marinero is being changed into a car park
Surely not
-
I wondered where everybody would park when the road works make the road up from the harbour two way and pedestrianise the other side. That is a lot of parking spots removed.
-
The work at the moment in the lido is the continuation of the replacement pipes which run throughout Los Gigantes.
-
Are the road works still progressing during lock down?
-
Think you should read that as a no!
-
Road works started again at the beginning of this week. They are currently working at the junction by Simple Simons but there are only about 4 men working. It would be nice if the could get it all finished while this lock down continues!!!
-
Any latest news on the works so that we can day dream please
How is the walk from crab island to barcelo coming on
-
I know it's an old one, but they have found a hole and they are looking in to it.
-
The work continues but very slowly. Will take pics the next time I pass
-
Thank you
-
This picture was taken this morning. The work is well on the way but still not finished.
Click on pic to enlarge
-
Thanks. The only difference I can see from a picture I took on 10th of March is they have tidied up a bit and planted the trees.
-
Can’t wait to see it for ourselves. Missing the area so much. Good luck with the easements.
-
Excellent and thank you
Can't wait but it does look a bit concretey
-
Yeh, just wait until the Graffiti Artists see that pristine concrete
-
Ideal for the dog I am an idiot walkers, who are to lazy to pick it up. It will be piled high!
-
Went to Milan on business a few years ago and everything had graffiti
It was horrible but the locals called it art
How interesting
-
It is exactly the same construction as the existing stretch to the right of the photo that goes from Crab Island to the little mirrador. It is mainly just missing the glass balustrades that stick out over the cliff to fill the gaps you can see.
The mirrador was vandalised by some British yobs that left their post code as graffiti last year. So yes it does attract idiots with paint. I wouldn't call them artists.
-
Any news on the work going on please
-
Dolly sorry to bother you but what is the latest with regards to work and changes locally please
When we return xx
-
The work is just about finished. They are busy with the footpath outside Simple Simon mini market.
-
Might be a good time Georgie in the not to distant future to buy something in LG. Sure there will be some bargains coming up!
-
I sincerely hope you’re wrong Pilgrim
-
According to JA the Canaries are going for "sustainable intelligent tourism" in the "new normal". No idea what that means. Perhaps an intelligence test as well as a Covid19 test on entry.
-
Tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities
-
I think they will mainly go bust then. The money is in the cheap mass tourism.
-
From what I see it is the Brits who spend the money! The Russians have not got it. The Germans are to healthy, just walking and eating the right things. So the unintelligent obese Brits it is then!
-
Except those are the ones Covid19 will wipe out.
-
I hear the germans have invaded majorca
Please not at my age I have to sign up to fight
-
No Riff Raff, and don't mention the war! Basil did but he thinks he got away with it.
I booked up "The faulty Towers Dining Experience" for my birthday back in May. Unfortunatley it is no longer on, and they have not even contacted me! Our group were 8 on the Premier table. Was really looking forward to it! It's not cheep, and you don't go for the food. A set menu of Tomato soup followed by Chicken main. But I have been to a few restaurants in LG which could compare I imagine!
-
Any news on restaurant openings please
-
There are several restaurants open now in Los Gigantes
On the marina:-
Karl & Val
In the village:-
Charlies Bistro
Green Corner
Jardin del Sol
Bar Sangria
In Puerto Santiago and Playa Arena there are several open now.
-
Thank you
Is there any tape for spaces or anything like this please
-
The Wine Bar at the Harbour Club is open from 10 am for drinks and food.
-
I have not seen any restaurants with tapes marking spaces, but tables are placed further apart and those with limited floor space are using less tables
-
Excellent
Is all restaurants adapting to the same code
Please not let any of close
-
Nice paved area with palm trees and benches outside Simple Simons now.
Also hear that work has started again on the new development Crystal, up by the Royal Sun
-
Really?????? No signs of anything happening.
-
Paul Ruane posted a video elsewhere of the work restarting
-
Elsewhere? Please, where?
-
I found it on his facebook page with Google.
https://www.facebook.com/losgigantesproperties/videos/the-project-of-cristal-in-los-gigantes-has-been-a-dream-of-mine-for-many-years-a/643906442875143
-
Many thanks.
-
I see that the Counsel are spending €200k on repairing a couple of the small pathways around the square by the church. Hopefully they will get the same contractors in and use the same tiles and workmanship standard that they used on the revamp 3 or 4 years ago.
It looks so good. Would not want it to look tatty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AND UNFINISHED AND A WASTE OF MONEY
AWOL
-
200K for two pathsways! Could get a decent 2 bed apartment for that!
-
Sounds like another con, like the plaza refurb a while back.
Local Mayor/Councillor awards contract to friendly builder/contractor. (cheapest estimate out of 3, the other 2 will get the next jobs). So 200K, I imagine the local rate for a street paver would be no more than 25K per annum. So 150k would be enough to employ 6 fellas for a year! And allow 50k for materials, if they are matching existing - that would be an awful lot of block paving!
I think the real cost is closer to 100K, and the other 100k to be split between builder and council.
Of course I am only winding every one up, and that type of fraud would never happen in Spain.
Let's hope this time it won't take so long!!!

Any updates on the lido at pablado marinero please
Hopefully not a car park
-
Let's hope this time it won't take so long!!!
"The term of execution of the works will last a year and a half, until December 31, 2021."
-
Any more updates please dolly
Is the walk from crab island round barcelo hotel please
-
It's still not open but looking near completion. (probably another year to see it open again!!)
-
Thank you for the update
It looks longer to walk then the old days and very ugly
-
It's a ramp for wheelchair access. Not sure if there will be a shortcut for pedestrians.
In terms of aesthetics, it is exactly the same as the existing stretch from Crab Island to the little mirador, but that has steps.
-
Any further news on the updates please
-
Sorry but any more updates please
-
What is the latest please on the work around los gigantes
And is there any pictures please
-
Georgie if you are not now coming why are you hassling our poor Dolly.
Almost that you like to see your posts climbing .
Get a life !
-
Really Mr Bear ... is that tone necessary? I'm sure that Dolly doesn't feel hassled......Live and let live..
-
Edward I would swear at you for this post
Unfortunately I have my mask on
-
I must say I'm pretty fed up with the nastiness on this site so this will be my last post. I shall be back in LG though when restrictions are lifted despite Lucy W not wanting me there - see her post on another thread. Keep posting Georgie - nothing wrong with wanting to know what's going on in a place you love. Bye all.
-
Now Georgie besides asking repetitive questions, you are now telling porkies, I refer to many of your previous posts, you don't wear a mask, that is why you purchased a visor.
Bye Bye SandyLea, I am sure all the business in Tenerife are glad you cancelled your holiday, perhaps along with Georgie & nophead you should get used to wearing a mask, because the way things are going, it might be law everywhere soon. If you stick your head above the parapet, expect to get it shot off, I have many times, it's called life.
-
Unhappy it was a joke xx
-
I would be surprised if we ever have to wear one outside in the UK because it makes no sense. That isn't where people are catching it. What happens if it is raining?
In the UK they seem to be concentrating of stopping people socialising. I should be driving up to Northumberland to see my sister this evening, arranged a week ago but cancelled by the government yesterday as they can't socialse outside household groups up there now. Funny because they have a lower rate than we do here at the moment and we can still socialise in sixes but we couldn't when we had a much lower rate a month ago.
Does any of this make sense?
-
YES IT IS SPREADING AGAIN YOU IDIOT.
-
Yes but what is idiotic is twice I have been prevented from socialising when rates were very low in the area that was restricted and twice I have had more freedom when rates were much higher. We couldn't host events in the summer when our rate was about 7 but can now when it is 45.9, while my sister can't socialise in an area with a rate of 22. So it is the people in charge that are idiots.
-
I have always wore a mask but found them hot and difficult to breathe in that is now why I have started wearing a visor
-
You are really something nophead, all those people that have died and stopped your social life how inconsiderate of them.
May I suggest instead of wasting your time posting on here to us you post to Boris and see if he can help you I am sure he has nothing better to do than listen to a raving lunatic.
-
Even though we are not there
Are there any further updates on the work being carried out please
-
Los Gigantes roads and pavements are completely finished and looking really nice. Walkway around Barcello Santiago still not finished.
-
Thank you

The new path from the crab island mirrador looks to be open as there are people walking on it but we haven't tried it yet.
-
Second pic as can only attach 1MB :(
-
Thank you for the update

What a concrete eyesore, Our friends owned the first apartment with the balcony & let us stay there for 6 weeks after we sold our property.
The owners of the first block will be lucky to sell any of them, especially when the gratifi morons find it.
What a total waste of money when there was a natural path already there, just needed a safety fence cliff side.
Its a pity the Council could not have spent the money on the pavements & a dog warden, to stop the sh1t all over them.
-
Unhappy, I guess your friends got compensated for the works!
-
Yes it is a very brutalist architecture but of course it is very wheelchair friendly but a long diversion for pedestrians. Not sure why they built the stairs to bypass the short ramp at the top because it isn't any shorter, so even pedestrians would probably chose the ramp.
It matches the aesthetics of the the previous section from Crab Island to the mirrador. A few years ago we spoke to the owners of the end apartment and they were not happy it was built in front of their apartment and now they have concrete for a view and not much sun and people walking past them all the time. Feel very sorry for them.
Also the Crab Island section would be impossible for wheelchairs, so not very joined up planning.
In Los Cristianos, Las Americas and Costa Adeje the promenade is flat all the way along and so it is a Mecca for disabled people who hire mobility scooters to drive up and down. We once stayed in the Arona Gran in LC because it was adults only but we were about 2 generations younger than the most of the clientele and the foyer was full of mobility scooters and wheelchairs.
Perhaps Puerto de Santiago and Los Gigantes wanted to get in on the mobility action but I don't think any of those people will dare to travel now. You need to be reasonably fit to get around LG which is one reason we like it. The older people we meet are all reasonably fit and younger than their age.
LG streets seem pretty clean compared to most Spanish places. Try walking up the Camino Royal to Tamaimo for dodging sh1t.
-
Not a cent did they get
-
We walked down it today. It is blocked off past the steps over the back of the Barcelo, so you can't go around the front yet but a short section has opened past Capuccino Maria along the front of the Barcelo, so just the corner at Mirador Tancón really that is still closed.
Quite nice benches and viewpoints.
-
Statues of giant turds seem to be appearing all over the place!
-
There is a nice viewing platform with a bench.
-
The triangular balustrades are handy for distancing when people pass.
-
Instead of being able to walk around the corner of the Barcelo at the moment you have to climb up these stairs, down the other side past the front of the hotel and then down the steps past Cappuccino Maria to get past the last bit that isn't completed yet.
-
No idea why, but they are widening the coastal path from Varadero to Alcala at a cost of EUR580,000. They are also building a platform at Punta Blanca.
Shame it still stops short of Alcala. Would have been a lot better to make it longer rather than wider.
-
Thanks for the info nophead very interesting perhaps they are not what you think they are, but sunburnt MR Whippies.
As for the concrete eyesore how do the disabled get down to the viewing platform & the triangular bits dont look big enough to take a wheelchair thus blocking the new path.
-
Stairs only to the little platform.
People in wheelchairs would need to peer through glass balustrades before they get vandalised. I think they are just about big enough to take a wheelchair and leave 1.5m for people to get past. Obviously designed long before covid arrived.
It overlooks the Crab Island pool and the sea was a bit choppy when were there. I said to my wife "somebody could get swept out of that pool". Guess what, they did! We heard an ambulance later that day and found out somebody was rescued from the sea and taken to hospital. The tides seem very high at the moment.
I think the Mr Whippies are aimed at dog walkers but their signs are in Spanish so not sure what they say.
-
Crab Island pool has had many people swept out from it & it is not just tourists not knowing the danger, a local doctor lost her son when he was pulled over the edge & drowned.
As for the dog signs I don't think it will make any difference to the Spanish, I have never seen one with a bag or poop scoop in all the years we have been coming anywhere in Spain.
-
Google translated the sign for me
El chulo
Yo soy tu caca
Si la cagas la pagas
The pimp
I'm your poop
If you f.ck up you pay it
So no doubt there but 301EUR is an odd amount.
-
Here is a more cryptic one, which Google translates as:
The shy
Just say I'm a little request
Cockatoo
Hehe
No idea but somebody / something seems to have crapped on his hand!
-
Here is a photo from the new pathway to Puerto Santiago. They have done a really good job. Hopefully the last bit round the hotel will be opened soon so the the stairs can be avoided.

Lovely and thanks Tanemera

Can't wait to return and have that lovely walk
-
We looked through the barriers at the corner that is still closed and it looks finished apart from the lighting and that was a few days ago. The paving is certainly finished, so it looked fine for use during the day.
We have heard a rumour that it might stay closed until the an official opening with the mayor cutting a ribbon.
-
Seems to be no active work on the path but we manged to walk the full length of it today when we noticed other people on it.
There are two barriers: the first leaves a 2 foot gap to the wall of the hotel so you can just walk around it. The second round the corner in front of the hotel butts up to a low wall about 18 inches high with a rail in the middle, so you can just walk around that one as well by stepping onto the wall.
-
And now one of the glass balustrades is broken already. That didn't last long!
In general we notice lots of LG, PS, and PA is getting tatty. Whatever they use as mortar to stick down the crazy paving or hold rocks into walls seems to just crumble away. And rendering on walls seems to just fall off. Odd as I presume there are never any frosts and hardly any rain, just sun and wind.
Also somebody drove into the wall on the road above Lidl, punched a hole in it and moved the rest of it back a few inches, so that needs rebuilding.
-
I know we are in lockdown but are there any photos of the lockdown please
-
Not sure how you take a picture of a lockdown, Georgie!
-
There isn't a lockdown in Tenerife yet, so nothing to see here.
-
Correct there is nothing to see if you go on to skyline webcams you can see all the areas, N/S/E/W the whole country looks like a ghost town & the weather looks terrible.
Also if you go on to JA site it would appear that most of her posters are glad that as we are described as urinal British visitors, we are not allowed to visit Tenerife.
The woman should realise that the visitors spend most of the money, not the odd few that live there.
-
I think she has the lost the plot as she seems to have counted 10 of the deaths over Christmas twice and thinks the case increases over 8 days are terrible. If you look a graph Tenerife is actually on the way down now is as low as it was when we arrived in October. Gran Canaria looks like it is going for its third wave.
-
I know you stay a long time there but how are you going to stay only for the 3 months that you are allowed now we have left the EU if restrictions are still in force, they are saying lockdown until the 31st of March, but could be reviewed.
The other joke on JA site, they keep banging on about British passports being stamped, at one time everybody wanted their passports stamped to show where they had traveled to.
The best thing I can see the border guards now have to do something to earn their money, instead of just sitting on their bums, bored out of their minds, pretending to look at our passports which they have been doing for years.
-
The three months starts from 1st of Jan, so we have to leave before the end of March. We have flights booked for a couple of weeks before, so if they get cancelled we have some time to get back via Madrid or something.
-
