What we love about Los Gigantes

  • Following the earlier theme about changing a certain thread, I am happy to advise that I have just booked flights for my Mother and Father in Law for 5 weeks over the Xmas/New Year period - they keep extending it each year!!  We always come out for at least a week over Xmas and have done for the last 12 years or so and I am looking forward to more of the same this year.

What brings us back year after year....

    The fabulous people
    The stunning scenery
    Excellent private accomodation
Easy access to the rest of the island
    Good food
    Good entertainment
    Relaxing atmosphere

Please feel free to add to the list and help big up LG.

  • I think you mostly sum it up perfectly Ellen - completely agree with all on your list and all those things keep me coming back year after year too
.  For me I'd like to add:

it's an easy drive from the airport
may as well be a million miles away from the large resort with the reputation!
close to beautiful Masca and Teno
fantastic sunsets and view of La Gomera
    nice choice of shops
    lovely variety of good restaurants
    just the right size resort
    great weather

and my son would like to add:

    The Oasis is brill !!!

  • A beautiful and unique part of the world.

The lovely coastal walk from Barcelo thru to Arena Beach is one of my favourites.  Sometimes really lucky to see pilot whales in the ocean.

Great restaurants and bars.  Entertainment if you want it.  Peace and quite if you want it.

After 17 years off and on, still as mesmerized by the place as my very first visit.  8)

  • Oh yes - the pilot whales.  We were spoiled last year and saw them from our balcony while eating our brekkie.  And completely agree with the comment about it feeling like I've come home everytime we get to the top and see the view down.  Shamefully I cried last year - I'll never grow tired of it, ever !!

  • Like - lack of litter, comparatively few graffitti, politeness of shop staff and local youngsters.

Dislike - high cost (when available) of Daily Telegraph and lack of letters/cryptic crossword in the Spanish edition.

  • As I have just written on another thread, we arrived back yesterday from one of our many visits.  Every time we leave we wonder if we will be back or go somewhere else, and then we find ourselves booking again!  A large part of our holiday is the eating out and we are never short of good places for food in this area.  We were big fans of Harbour Lites and missed it on our last visit but this time, we loved the food we had at it's replacement, Antonio's.  We always eat at Mistinguette, El Pescador, Tipsy and El Barco as well, and are never disappointed.  And how can you not love the ambiance at Tipsy Terrace, spending lunchtimes in the garden is one of life's little pleasures and the staff....Sarah, Sally, Jason, Denise etc make it such a friendly place.  To sit on the terrace of whichever apartment we rent, and stare at the view is something I never tire of and neither is sitting in the square or at Bar Sangria with a coffee (and cake!), watching the world go by.  We'll be back  ;D

  • We came back last Thursday and feel that I would love to go back on the next plane (England is so cold).  I agree Tipsy Terrace was wonderful.  Spent many lunchtimes and evenings there (especially Wednesday night with the great entertainment).  Everything is right about the Tipsy and there are a few restaurants in Los Gigantes (not going to mention names) that could go to Tipsy and learn a lot about customer service.

Hopefully we will be back there next March.

  • We got home early last Tuesday after yet another lovely stay in one of the flats by the Oasis ... had some scrumptious meals out, met up with old friends, enjoyed convivial evenings being entertained in our favourite local bars, spent many pleasant hours lazing around in the Oasis - swam most days - and happily stayed bug-free all holiday.  Used our Bono Bus tickets for a trip over the mountains to Puerto de La Cruz - a must-do for us, every holiday - had a couple of trips on Flipper Uno - brilliant as always both times - swam in the sea from the boat - and could be found at one time or another most days having a relaxing drink on the Marina outside the Offshore 44 bar.  Already booked for September ... can't wait!

  • So many comments about Tipsy Terrace and I'd like to add my own, we were there last October, we didn't get round to going toTipsy Terrace until our last Friday there when we saw Jason French, we enjoyed his show so much we cancelled your plans for the Monday (our last night) to go back to Tipsy Terrace again were we saw the Jeff Leyton who has played Jean Valjean in Les Mis his renditions of Bring him Home (from Les Mis) brought tears to my eyes. The food and service were excelent and the entertainment was like nothing we've even seen in the area before, it was just in a completely different class. We're back again in May and our plan for the first day - go to Tipsy Terrace and see who's on whle we are there and get some tables booked so that over the course of the 2 weeks we'll be there we get so see every entertainer that they have on and if either of the above mentioned entertainers are still there go every night they are on

Whilst not critisising other restaurants and bars (because there are lovely places to eat and drink in the area) I wholeheratedly agree with previous postings that entertainment-wise a lot could be learnt from Tipsy Terrace.

Tipsy Terrace - we love what you are doing please keep up the standards of entertainment that we experienced last October

Incidently - what is the current entertainmenmt programme at Tipsy Terrace?

    great weather!!!

and los gigantes/ pto santiago/ arena dont get the budget or the advertising push from the tourist board either - everyone who comes back time and time again which most people do, is because they love it.

i have yet to meet someone who has not enjoyed the resort

  • Oh yous are making me jealous!!! We havent been out since having my wee girl in June 2008. Money is the main reason - flights are so expensive especially at new year from Scotland and now a 3rd seat to buy! Bn used to coming out twice a year and so so so missing it. Cant wait to return. Miss the laid back but friendly atmosphere of the place, good restuarants etc etc.

  • Scots Lass it may be worth looking at flights. Following on from the disastrous circumstances of the volcano in Iceland, airlines are desperate for bookings. Hope you get lucky and get back to the wonderful LG. :-X
