  • As an experiment for this year?s carnival we have temporarily moved the web cam and focused on the square.  Hope you enjoy it.  The losgigantes.com team will be busy each day of carnival to bring you photos, which can be viewed in our photo gallery, and video on our video page ? a few days in edit is needed. http://www.losgigantes.com/webcam/webcam.html

We are looking for a sponsor for next year to be able to bring you live video stream with audio from the plaza itself.

  • Great view from webcam. Thanks.
Refresh rate very quick so the picture appears as a flashing image which makes viewing difficult.

  • We are checking out this problem.  If we go back to using our old system vista users can't connect.  However, the highlights of each days filming (not from web cam) will be edited and posted up on our video page like last year.  So watch out, it's amazing what our cameras pick up!

Please give me a few days to edit - there's not enough hours in the day at the minute.

  • We are on Vista with this laptop and were able to use the old system. We followed the instructions that were a bit complicated but were helped out by a ten year old who had not problem following them!

Good luck with what you come up with. You are doing a great job. Thanks.

  • Sorry all but we are having to move the web cam back to its original position, due to an official complaint  from someone abut invasion of privacy apparently you could see their terrace from the picture yesterday. we hope to bring you live coverage next year with sound but we have to find a sponsor for it.

as for the flashing we are working on it, we resolver one problem which was with vista (not much of a suprise there then) only to find a new problem, we hope to have it resolved in the next few days.

  • Web cam needs attention, looks like it's a bit more complicated than a simple reset.  It's on the jobs to do list, which is getting longer each day, but our priority this week has to be the completion of our office/shop move to the marina.

  • Hi RichB & welcome
I have just checked web cam and it does seem OK now, can't really help with the techie stuff, but have you downloaded Java from the link below the cam? if it isn't that I am afraid that is my knowledge exhausted!

  • Don't panic Orange?  Support for Windows XP will continue, in accordance with the Microsoft Support Lifecycle policy.  This means that the Mainstream Support phase will end on April 14, 2009 and the Extended Support phase will end on April 8, 2014.  That?s at least another 6 years of support remaining for Windows XP!

  • Who owns/operates the camera?? Also, whats the location of it?
Would be nice if someone looked after it a bit more and maybe turned it 45degs every few days. Are there any plans for any others around the village?

  • For security reasons we cannot answer the first part of your question.

By popular demand we have been requested to keep the view on the cliffs or the marina.

We cannot turn the camera to to the view of the village as we would be bombarded with complaints about privacy on balconies.  We can't please everyone.

Any willing sponsors out there for additional cameras around the village?

Yes I understand about the camera directions and the possibility of invasion of privacy, I was just enquiring about it as in the very first post on this topic you said "The camera has the facility to pan, tilt and zoom so the view will change regularly.". Maybe a little tilt downwards would make for a slightly better view by bringing the harbour back into view?

  • I am a fan of live webcams because  the viewer can witness signs of life as the image refreshes every few seconds or so.  I know the Los Gigantes cliffs are very nice to look at but they don't move, so it's something of a misnomer to describe the webcam image on this website as ?live?. There are  no discernible signs of life and the image quality is so poor that it doesn't even show changes in the weather. I only look at the webcam when someone comments about a change and I'm always disappointed when I eventually view the  image.

I know the technology isn't cheap (and I'm not paying for it) but why not invest in a different webcam with an optical zoom and better image controls or point it at a public place where we can see people enjoying themselves. A picture paints a thousand words so I have posted  a snapshot taken from the live webcam at Las Vistas beach.  Do you see what I mean?

Alternatively, scrap the webcam and instead have a   photo of the day which people could email to you.

Very wise words indeed Falstaff - I believe first said by an early Emperor of the Xia Dynasty in China circa 4,000 years ago.

Always seemed strange to me that the guy was remembered for what he "said" rather than what he "painted" !!
I wanted to be the Cincinnati Kid - but couldn't spell it
