Waste Land in front of Las Mimosas

  • Just back from 10 glorious days, but noticed surveyors working on the waste ground between Las Mimosas and Crab Island. Any ideas what's going on? One suggestion was it's going to become car park and the village will become people only for most of the day.

  • Yes, a car park is planned with access from the Crab Island road.  There will also be a kiosk and beach and a footpath from behind Los Gigantes hotel round the baranca and San Sofe resort then on to the promenade to Puerto Santiago.  See the report on the Coucil meeting where the plans were preseneted.  http://www.losgigantes.com/board/index.php?topic=2344.0

  • Tanemera,
I was also at the council meeting in the old police station on 28th Feb.
The report is accurate considering nobody from losgigantes.com was present!
If my memory serves me right, I think you submitted the original report which was subsequently withdrawn.
The Spanish general elections are on 20th Nov and the PP (conservative) party is expected to win.
All the projects seem very ambitious and 'nice to have'. All of these projects supposedly will be funded by the COSTAS, but at an estimated cost of 12 million euro where will the money come from in the present economical climate?
Los Gigantes is desperately in need of a car park.

  • Sounds wonderful. A walk from LG to Pilgrim's old place was a daily treat for us. This will make it even better.

  • Does that mean the residents, holiday makers and guest staying in Las Mimosas will be looking down on a large car park ?

Presumably the car park will be "fee paying" which is all well and good but visitors and residents will surely continue to park for free in the streets before paying for car parking in the official park.  Seems to me the only way to free up the streets would be to have double yellows within the village which would force drivers to use the fee paying parks.

The raising of the dosh is entirely another matter, currently it may be listed as a "nice to have" facility (not the car park) but the walkway and an additional beach.

I am happy to make a small cash contribution to the 12 mill euros - now we only need another 11,999,995 euros   :-\\

  • Have heard tell, that any car park will be fairly low key - not a multi-storey one.  Shall have to wait and see.  Also, a rumour (!!!) that car park near post office will open shortly.  PP or no PP, there stll won't be any money.  The Partido Popular (PP) did get elected in May in S del Teide, but the Mayor had to persuade Sr Doble - socialist - to join him in power to obtain  an overall majority of one over the others:  Coalicion Canarias 5 seats, independent 3 and sociialist 1.  Mayor and cohorts changed from Coalicion Canarias hoping that the PP wins National elections on Nov 20th..Who, in their right minds, would wish to inherit the mess that most European countries are in financially?  Car park?  20 years maybe.

Yes, El Presidente, I submitted a report to Dolly Diver, at her request asshe was unable to attend.  I had expected my report to be edited but it wasn't, so I asked Dolly to withdraw it and then I submitted an edited version, without my personal views. This is what appears on the forum now.  It's interesting to hear that surveyors have been spotted in the area of the proposed car park.
