  • Can anyone recommend some good walking routes in the area or any walking clubs that exist that we could join in with?

  • We bought ourselves a decent walking book from the outdoor shop in el valadero.  The book is called "The finest valley and mountain walks" - Rother Walking Guide.  You might be able to order from Amazon the ISBN number is 3-7633-4809-3.  The book has great maps and clear descriptions of walks all over the island.  Also you might be able to order from www.rother.de.

  • the tourist office in Playa De La Arena has a good free booklet with descriptions, length and difficulty.  There is a good circular walk round Chinero, and lovely walk to the Goat Farm and another from Arguayo to Santiago del Teide.  The bookshop El Kiko in Alcala has some good books on local walks as well.  Happy tramping !
