  • I'm not much help here Linda, having so far only come in Spring and late Summer/Autumn. However, if it helps,  for "normal eating out" since the Mariposa closed we have had some nice meals at the Bodeguita (they do a couple of nice veggie pancakes ... the one with spinach in is my favourite), Bella Napoli by the harbour (Italian restaurants usually include veggie items among their pizza's and pasta dishes - but we always check and tell them we are veggies when ordering), the chef at the Wine Bar by the Sports Centre has always had a substantial veggie option when we've been there - and of course there is (lovely) Krishna's ... however we often take advantage of the delightful fresh produce in the Ccountry Garden and have a cook-up in the apartment. (Don't suppose your friends would be wanting to do that at Christmas though !!!)  I hope they have a good time anyway. I would be interested to hear what anyone else can contribute to this - for future reference ...

  • Saw it in Mercadona in Playa last time there, but the Spanish really don't understand vegetarians. Be careful of vegetable soup in restaurants as often its made with chicken stock!

As a happy carnivore, I don't have a problem with Spanish cuisine, but with a few veggie friends I appreciate the problems in eating out!

  • Simply Simons in Los G has a stock of vegetarian and quorn items in their freezer and will get anything in that you may suggest.

They are not inexpensive but they do a service on these items.

  • Thanks Cochinello and Poolepirate.  Did try Mercadonna today, but no quorn, so will visit Simons tomorrow.  I know Iceland [near the Airport] sell it, but that's a bit of a trek, so brilliant to find somewhere closer to home. ;D

  • I do so admire you vegetarians for the strength of character to put principles into practise and deny yourselves the pleasures of the flesh. I wish I had the courage to join you. We used to keep free-range pigs and it was so sad when it came time came for them to go.

I think the bible got it wrong when it said Eve was tempted by the devil with an apple, it surely must have been a bacon  butty. Who could resist the smell?

Sorry I canquote t help with a location for Quorn. Perhaps you should ask Tenerife Prison  where they get their supplies from.

  • Ah, Falstaff, you've got it wrong with some of us.  No admirable principles/strength of character on my part  - just don't like the taste of flesh - BUT bacon, there I make the odd exception :P

  • The new French restaurant that has taken over the Wayside was due to open last week, I spoke to the French chef the other day and he says that he will include good veggie options on his menu, all the menu is French and dishes sound absolutely divine. Although work men took twice as long as quoted (manana por manana) I think they are hoping to open next week-end, I think this is going to be the place LG has been waiting for, I can't wait to try it.
