  • Unfortunately i have not had time to read this string until now as many of you know i have been somewhat preoccupied with the death of my mother.

I will try and answer some of the comments without getting personal, you all know who I am and if you wish to address me to my face you can, I never hide. unfortunately in this area and I suspect many others, there are a small number of people who have little else to do but criticise others, they always know best - try getting off you butts and doing it then!

Another point is quite simple if you all care to submit your real names, NIE, address etc
I will gladly give you complete freedom of speech on these boards,  but most of you don't have to balls for that do you? You want to hide behind your web names.

If you want to contribute then fine that would be cool as dolly suggested.

This site was set up originally to help promote this area and the business in it, not to bring it down, we live in one of the best places in the world the climate is wonderful and diversity of culture fantastic. like all places in the world it has its issues paperwork etc but there are many people who can help with this like Di who originally set up this site with me.

So let me put it simply for you if you want total freedome of speech let me know all your details, post under your real name so everyone else knows who you are - then no problem.

You want to contribute brilliant I would welcome it so lets have your contributions to the office in Los Gigantes

Incidentally this site ranks number one on all of the major search engines so we must be doing something right.

  • The web master is consistent and he made his policy absolutely clear when he said,

?We allow you to post your comments anonymously. However, we reserve the right to edit or delete any comments we do not feel are appropriate, or are coming from an obviously biased source, or are overly negative or just to be clear IF I FEEL LIKE IT!?

Here is a message board mission statement unequalled for its clarity which succinctly sums up the management style and ethos of this website.

  • Janey, I think you are the victim of an injustice. Someone clearly has a grudge against you. I do not recall you ever posting a message which you intended to offend so I believe that your curse score is unwarranted and unfair.  You could quite easily have set up a couple of new email addresses and membership accounts with losgigantes.com and used them to  cancel out your negative Janey score and within a few days you could  have a +60 score, but is it really worth the effort? It just goes to show how meaningless  the bless/curse feature really is.

Far be it from me to be so  impertinent but surely the easiest  solution would be for the administrator of this website to recognise the outstanding contribution you have made to this website by cancelling out your negative score and at the same time affording you the same protection afforded to those  privileged members whose curse/bless score has been disabled.

Mr amibovvered, all I can say to you is this, ?the better part of valour is discretion, in the which better part I have saved my life.?

  • Paul and Dolly you both know exactly who I am and I am sufficiently curious enough to ask which are these search engines and how are they substantiated. I am thinking of Google Yahoo etc.
(Incidentally this site ranks number one on all of the major search engines so we must be doing something right.)

As I have mentioned previously I also think that the bless curse thing was set up by someone with a childish mind.

  • Hi All, just got back from the Uk and read this string, I'm not sure why the PM hasn't just banned you all, I just did a little bit of testing myself and I can say the PM is right try typing los gigantes into the search for google.co.uk or yahoo.co.uk or msn.com and you will find that losgigantes.com is number one below the paid for adverts. personally I think this web site is very well run and is trying hard to promote the area. And I agree with the view that freedom of speech has a price attached i.e. loss of anonymity, so i guess I'll just continue to post and behave myself.

  • This web site needs to be used like many others world wide to be informative and interesting to people contemplating visiting the area.

i agree.  this site, i would have thought, was here to promote this lovely part of tenerife which is always forgotten by the spanish tourist board (who are caught up with either santa cruz or adeje), and which has the nicest scenery, the best of restaurants and of course the nicest people really!!! it is a friendly village, with the most lovely walks, lots of facilities including beaches, rock pools, tennis, crazy golf, boat trips, boat hire, golf, what more can you want on holiday.....?  and, we are very well situated for exploring the island - north and south.  also, hate to remind the southerners down in playa las americas but we get better weather.... more sunshine less rain!

Having been away for several weeks I must say this thread is the most interesting thing I have seen on this forum for a long while.    Whether it has been deliberately posted to instigate discussion, I don?t know but for what it is worth, I agree with most of what has been said.

Over moderating does make forums dull,  far better to let posts run and only if they get totally out of hand transfer to an Off Topic thread, after all we are supposed to be adults.  Or maybe as one other forum has a Dungeon where people who just want to have a bit of banter about nothing in particular can chat online.  No harm is done, word gets around and more people join in the forum.

I really dislike the curse/bless function.  If it is meant to be funny it isn?t, if it is meant to indicate you agree with someone, then have a thanks button so the persons profile name is shown, but just giving the facility to denounce anonymously is open to abuse as can be seen from some members counts.

I think Janey is right in what she says this forum should be used to promote the West of the island but in an honest way.  There is little point in telling someone how great everything is when there are clearly places that are below par, when visitors read that a restaurant/business is first class then find it is the opposite they will tell everyone they know - as the old saying goes bad news travels fast.  Therefore this forum should allow criticism either positive or negative so that new members can judge for themselves who they can rely on for accurate information rather than a silly anonymous function that needs to be explained - as to me it certainly doesn?t seem obvious that it indicates agreement or disagreement.

dolly, have you seen my bless/curse wotsit??  i actually am not that bothered, but, there is someone out there who doesnt personally know me, yet, curses me constantly!!!  i feel i am pretty honest on this site, but, to a newcomer, they may take no notice of my comments because of this silly cursing system.  i recommend certain restaurants and my recommendations may be misconstrued due to this cursing system which is unfair for the restaurants and newcomers to the site. as i always say, this site is popular so really you should be careful with this bless/curse thing as it could backfire!! i feel it should be taken off the site. it is a silly childrens game! in fact, i dont think my children would play it as it is a form of online bullying!!!!!

Spot on, it is a form of bullying - I am not going to press the bless or curse button as it is a stupid function, instead I will openly say I agree with you until such time as a thanks function which clearly shows who is agreeing is instigated.

I also don't 'get' the point of the bless/curse thing and to be honest don't take much notice of it and so take the comments in the posts at face value.

I agree that some of the posts on here can be quite negative and also agree that someone who doesn't regularly read the posts on the forum (like I do) might be a bit put off on occasion - especially if they've never visited Los Gigantes and are trying to get some pointers on where to go on their hols.

Janey, you replied to a thread I started elsewhere on the site and I took on board everything you told me and took absolutely no notice of your minus reputation.  BTW - you gave me good advice and when I saw your minus reputation, I decided it must be a load of old rubbish and so blessed you.

Bless/curse is not working as perhaps it was originally intended?

  • I agree with you grockle.

I understand the theory behind Bless/Curse. In principle it is a self regulating mechanism which enables the message board as whole to show approval/disapproval.  On a large website with thousands of active members it could possibly work well  as a general indicator. However, on a  message board such as this with a small active membership it would be quite easy for a determined  individual with a grudge to skew the results through repeated cursing.

Thank you Dolly for reviewing your policy. No doubt a change would  involve a cost to you in terms of money or time.

  • I have enjoyed reading all the comments since I started this post and it is heartening to see that a lot of you seem to think much the same as I do.  I do not understand this curse thing either - I assume it is to do with the number next to reputation by a persons name?  It all seems rather pointless and silly.

At least new users can see at a glance who the trouble makers are!!!

Wrong. Agree all they can see is someone who has fell foul of someone else who thinks it fun to deliberatly keep cursing them. Childish and pointless.
