  • Wouldn't be lovely to live and work on an island where life would not depend on the seemingly meagre fortunes of 'the swallows' ? Come everybody. let's hear your real opinions..........

  • DO they bring money in?  they dont use the restaurants every day nor the bars. i think the people who bring the money in and keep the resort turning over are the holiday makers so lets give them want they want.

it is the holiday makers who keep the transfer guys going, the taxi's going, the cleaners going, the restaurants and bars going, the tourist shops going.....   Mmmmm.......   what do the swallows do?  moan about noise....? :P

  • Even if they don't eat out every day or use the bars every day, they have to eat & therefore shop somewhere. Yes they do moan & think they own the place but they must generate some revenue as well during the time they are in L.G, and the way it's going every bit helps.

  • The swallows are very important to us. Every year we say its quiet here, but in November the swallows start to come back and it makes a big difference here  for me the more the better for all our business if every one helped eachother insted of knocking every one back this place would be a better one for us all

  • Well said Billy.

We need the swallows what ever the down side, if there is one. Whilst there is so much negativity it should be remember that many of our winter visitors, or summer  ones for that matter, come from the euro zone and are unaffected by the rate changes which seem to be causing the British so much consternation the sooner the UK falls in line and joins the euro the better. For the British.

  • I have to say I thought that if someone is coming for three or four months they would have to be rather well off to eat out every night. However in that length of time they must generate as much revenue for L.G. as someone who comes for a couple of weeks.l would have thought that they would be very welcome, although there does seem to be an element in L.G. that resents them for whatever reason.
Another point is that residents must surely have at some point come over for various lengths of time to know if they liked the place, therefore must have been swallows or similar themselves.
It does seem to be a case of who shall we have a go at next. If I was thinking about coming to spend my hard earned cash and staying for a couple of months instead of our usual two or three visits and read some of the comments it would not make me feel very welcome at all.
