Following on from the information that Russian investment has helped to open up the Royal Sun again and the signage within and the first arrivals are all Russian too......
I also heard that the last 40 units at the Balcones were cleared out to the Russian investors at knock down prices to close the sales at the complex. These units are already receiving Russian guests who are to be seen (and heard) in the Puerto Santiago Bajo area and restaurants.
We were recently in the popular San Francisco restaurant around from the Tamaimo Tropicale Hotel when a party of 'Russkis' arrived and demanded a table for 14 people ! The guy fronting the party had some English but was short on charm or courtesy. He had 'clearly not bothered to learn yet 'please' and 'thank you'. The waiter tried to explain that they were already pretty full and he could offer to split the group up. But the large unsmiling fellow demanded again 'one table 14 persons !'.
We expected there to be a request for others to move table to make room - and I had decided we were NOT going to move anywhere as we were already part way through our main course. However, another couple behind us did agree to move to another table and the party were eventually accomodated at a 10 and a 4 on two adjacent tables. Once seated they were pretty quiet and blended in with the atmosphere of that busy restaurant.
However, the Manager (Oscar) was on his night off and he had to be called in from watching football on TV at his apartment in PS town to come in and take the orders and help with the service. He was not at all amused by their demands and told them so - in his usual half-joking manner.
I also heard recently that a large villa on Punta Negra, just through Playa de l'Arena has been bought from a local businessman who just could not refuse the offer made. It was SO good that the deal was accepted and done and the place vacated within three days. The story also goes that the Russian buyer has ensured that there will no noise problems from the nearby Pilgrim across the street that he has bought that too and intends to keep it closed !
An estate agent in Playa de l'Arena is already selling to Russians and the notices in his window are in Russian script. We heard a VERY loud Russian lady estate agent doing business with someone in Icognito recently, she almost shouting down her mobile phone (presumably to someone in Russia).
So prepare to see the area change in the coming years with the arrival of all these Russkis - we can already hear them on the streets, the coastal walks and, no doubt, soon on the beaches !
It may be good for property sales though ? I see that Delmar already have their sales details in Russian script on the display board outside of La Pergola !
