  • Nothing wrong with someone retiring, but rather than close something down, putting people out of work, wouldn't it of been better to either sell it or hand it over to the employees to continue to run it ? or it is not making any money ? !!!!  :-\\

  • It was for sale for quite some time. Not every employee wants to take a business on.

  • I can't believe it.  It is one of the things I first do when I arrive is look for the Tenerife Sun. It will be greatly missed. :(

  • The Teneife Sun has new owners and will continue to be published on a 2 weekly basis. The Office is being moved to Adeje, but its current forman will continue. Lets hope the high standards continue with the new owners.

  • It is inevitable that the proposed move to Adeje will change the news content of the Tenerife Sun meaning more news relating to the south and less relating to the west coast. What a great pity.

And what about the facility to download the entire paper - will that still be available?  Let?s hope so.

Well, that's ok then, if it's got the same foreman, presumably the format will be the same !!  ::) ;D

On a serious note, I too will be saddened if the paper was to be no more, as I always found that there just wasn't enough of it - if only there was more I could stop all my windows rattling !!  No seriously I also like to read the TS when i'm out in LG and on line for that matter.

  • I think it would be better if it was produced on a monthly basis. Not enough material for a 2 weekly paper, have always thought that.

  • The news on losgigantes.com is updated several times a week. See news menu button on home page, direct link is  http://losgigantes.com/news and the headlines are in red at the top of all forum pages.  We do receive all the Ayuntamiento press releases, anything usefull is translated and posted either on the message board or in the news.

The problem I face is lack of interesting news for tourists, swallows and residents in this area.  There is so much negative news it would make you all too depressed.

Anyone who has usefull news can email us details and pics.

  • I find it very childish in the extreme that my link was deleted.

    Did it offend anybody? NO

    Was it helpful? YES

Does it provide advertising that may conflict with Los Gigantes dot com? NO

Moderator get a life please. This website is supposed to provide useful information and I felt that  website for which I gave the web address was useful, well written and better than that provided by yourselves in this time of flux following the demise of the Tenerife Sun.

This is not the first time that action similar to this has taken place but it is not always consistant.

First of all the web link was removed because it was posted without our permison. Its a local website trying to drive our web trafic to its own site and it is not of any advantage to us.

And second we do not post our link on their site for free!!

    Its called competition poolepirate

  • I hear what you say about competition and I understand your reasoning for deleting  the reference to another website.

However, I still think it was a bit mean to have deleted  poolepirate?s post, particularly as having done so, Dolly then went on to publish Peter Jay?s story about the Alcampo hypermarket,  almost word for word (along with photograph) on this website and without attribution to Peter Jay.

Also, when a post from a bona fide poster is deleted, can you please explain to  the  poster at the time, why it has been deleted otherwise it will naturally be taken like a slap in the face and cause offence.

  • Hi I?m Paul Marley Manager of LosGigantes.com you all know where to find the office and most will have my number.

This is the first time I have ever felt the need to post anything in response to a string, but some items need to be cleared up.

    1. This is a commercial web site, we do not allow, as a general rule, links to any other commercial site and even the owners of the site in question have acknowledged this.

    2. Had we been approached by another site for a link we would have considered it - we were not.

    3. We have always shown consistency with the removal of commercial links.

    4. With regard to the sting mentioned on Power Fm we allowed this to run after pointing out to the management of the station that the string existed, and as soon as we were requested to shut it down we did so, nether of which we were obliged to do.

    5. With regard to story content many news sites carry the same stories, re-worded and re written, it is the nature of the beast, and on occasion pictures will be the same in several places, occasionally someone may have a unique picture and that will be used by others without acknowledgment, as has happened to losgigantes.com on many occasions with local press, such is life, for the most part no one worries about it, these are not commercially valuable shots.

    6. Losgigantes.com has had a tradition of publishing news since its inception, however when there were other local publications doing this we endeavoured not to steel their thunder. Now that that the local area will only be served by ourselves, and one other publication which has been running for many years, we will be increasing our coverage of local stories that we hope will be of interest to the local community.

    7. We try to leave alone all strings and keep to a minimum moderator intervention unfortunately the nature of the beast is Dammed if we don?t, Dammed if we do.

I leave it to all with intelligence to think about who some of the posters in this string are, I am not hiding behind any ?nom-de-plume? and to my knowledge there are at least two posters on this string that are the same person, who ever they may be! I leave it to your own imaginations! So I may be just talking to myself!  Whatever.

It is late and I was unable to deal with this sooner so, if there are grammatical or spelling errors please forgive me.

I have now locked this string, as it serves no-ones best interests. If anyone has a problem with this please contact me ether by email paul@losgigantes.com or on the office number, 922 862713. Please be aware that I will only speak and respond to real names. If you are transferred to my mobile, please be aware that I will only answer if I am hands-free at the time, if not I will call back.
