Snow in Alcala!

  • Am I imagining it, or was that snow by the roadside just before Alcala and also by the bus stop on the right, just before the turn down to the square?  About 1 inch deep at 10 a.m. this morning (Monday) when the temperature was just 12 degrees C.

  • Yes that's right - they had a hail storm at about 8.15 today, but when we drove through it did looks like SNOW !! Unbelievable,  I'v never seen hail/snow so low down before, I've been speaking to a few of my Canarian friends and they've never known it in Alcala before.

  • Today the digital thermometer in Los Gigantes was reading 16C, the lowest I think I have ever seen. It is the coldest day this winter and the coldest day for some years, with a very surprising layer of hailstones on the ground in this area first thing this morning. Roads to Teide have been closed due to heavy snow.  We should see the last of the rain clouds dispersing tomorrow morning.

Plans for Carnival are well under way, however rain is forecast for Friday 18th.  At the moment the weather forecast looks good for the big carnival days Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
