Site Problems

  • I have been asked to first apologise to all and to explain what has happened to the site.

The notice board is just back up and the losgigantes.com team are tied up sorting out the rest of the site, the apartment rentals are being worked on now and the photo galleries and news will be sorted next.

What happened? The losgigantes.com hosting server and the site has been ?hacked? the losgigantes.com team are working franticly to restore the site, however this is proving to be much more complicated than first thought according to Chris the web master as ?thousands of lines of code? (no I don?t know what he?s talking about either) have been affected. The losgigantes.com team hope to have it sorted in the next twenty four hours.

Which brings me on to the subject of what the numpties who hack sites, or write viruses get out of it.

In many cases it could be a personal attack on the site, from competition or disgruntled ex employees, the other scenario is ?it?s just a game? the hackers against the web master or hosting provider, the final scenario is one that is becoming increasingly significant is the politically / ethnically / religiously motivated attack, many viruses hacking tools etc are written by groups, who wish to see the economies of the west and western businesses collapse.

On a local level losgigantes.com is one of the most popular sites in Tenerife unfortunately that makes it a target for the numpties.  It just wastes so much time

Once again sorry from the team (although it?s not their fault) for any inconvenience caused on your favourite local web site.

What do you all think about Hackers / Virus writers

  • Thank you Borris for the explanation.  We will have everything back to normal asap. Our new video pages, which are almost ready, have had to be put on the back burner for a day or two.

"What do you all think about Hackers / Virus writers "

What do I really think? - I'm afraid I can't print it here!!!  A base ball bat comes to mind.

It's sad that they have nothing better to do.

  • Welcome Back - they are in the same group as Trolls as far as I am concerned.

It was interesting that those who run Google desktop/Gadget that it issued a malware
warning before coming to the Message Board when it was otherwise engaged.

    Obviously that is OK now!

  • "May their bits fester and fall off" - I'd prefer the pleasure of cutting them of first!

  • As I was logging on to this site over the weekend, my screen froze. Windows Defender and my anti-virus software both detected, isolated and removed viruses and Trojans including a downloader.  Again after revisiting this site the next day my anti-virus software would not update and I had to do a Windows system restore. All is now well and I would suggest that other members check their hard drives and security software and make sure it?s up to date.

I wonder if the message posted a few days before from someone I think called Diddy (who was a "guest") had anything to do with the attack?

  • Yes, that?s what we recommend.  No one should ever surf or connect their computer to the internet in any way without a good quality antivirus and at least windows firewall operational, although greater protection may be afforded from other firewalls.  These pieces of software can be extremely difficult to set up correctly.

The sad truth is that there are many people writing malicious code to attack sites and gain important information from people?s computers.  It is the first time that losgigantes.com has been attacked in this way and we hope it is the last, but unfortunately no one can ever guarantee this.

We have now taken all possible steps to try to ensure this does not happen again.

Thank you everyone for your loyalty.

  • The so called TROJAN was a piece of script that was installed on our pictures database. A bug in the software, (coppermine) that allowed user to send zip files that could then be modified and loaded as if it was a picture with the site. It also infected all our other databases  message board, apartment rentals, web cam, etc...

The script does not effect your computer, it is not a computer virus, its a website virus that infected our server, but it did freeze internet explorer on loading the site due to overload of hundreds of lines of script trying to redirect you to a site named ccfelomvhk.com please do not try to visit this site as i am not sure what could happen.

The whole site has been deleted and restored (still a bit of restoring to be done). All software has been updated to the latest version and the backdoor in the picture database has been closed I have also blocked all type of files except jpg, bmp, gifs etc.. to increase security.

  • Definitely not me Falstaff, I should be so clever (or so nasty as to do something like that).  I even made a mess of trying to register and sent a blank message!  Hopefully I've done it right this time.  I love LG and have viewed this website and the webcam for a couple of years now and thought it was about time I joined in.  I feel as if I know everybody personally and this message board has given me many a good laugh when I'm sat in my dreary office in the UK.  Can't wait to get out there again at Xmas and totally agree that the people who run this website have done a marvellous job in getting the site back up and running so quickly.  Keep up the good work.

  • Shame on you Dolly for not censoring groundless, irresponsible and scurrilous remarks made against a completely innocent and respected member of this forum. ;D

    Profuse apologies Diddy.

  • Thank you Dolly,I was hoping that the people running the site would have enough knowledge to know there was nothing untoward, and thank you Falstaff.  I can totally understand why the assumption was made, I would have probably jumped to the same conclusions myself.  I was gutted to think that my hesitant approach to joining the forum would have me considered as one of the imbeciles that have nothing better to do than mess up peoples obvious enjoyment on this website.

  • Falstaff.." As I was logging on to this site over the weekend, my screen froze. Windows Defender and my anti-virus software both detected, isolated and removed viruses and Trojans including a downloader. "

I had the same problem. As soon as I attempted to log-on, the message came up " your computer has been subject to an attack ". I checked the identification of the virus and it came up as " ccfelomvhk " ( if that means anything to any of you computer buffs )..apparently it originated in the Ukraine ?
Great to see things are getting back to normal, keep up the good work.
