Shore fishing in the area any tips

  • Hi I am looking for some tips from anyone who has shore/harbour fished in the area. At home I am a game fisher trout/salmon, so no sea fishing experience, but I am packing my travel spin rod. Over the years I have watched people fish from the rocks from LG right along to Alcala & the harbour at San Juan seems popular. I'm thinking on focusing on the Alcala track after Varadero where I have often noticed sea bass close in and the rock standing area is less precarious than some other spots. It seems to be mainly locals who rock fish with bread bait but I was hoping to do some lure spinning. Any thoughts?

  • Hello Desmondo.  I hope some others will reply to you about the technique of shore fishing but I am replying because in rough weather these rocky shores can be very dangerous.  The tide can come in, the swell height can suddenly increase and several people have been washed off the rocks in this way with terrible consequences.

Please use commom sence, if the sea is rough don't go.

  • Thanks for that, yes that's the reason I was thinking the Alcala route as safer fishing but so far no other tips despite many views obviously not a recreational activity for this forums residents or visitors. Don't worry I have had a few interesting experiences with my main fishing so I respect the power and dangers of water.
