Shipping dogs to Tenerife

  • Has anyone had experience of shipping their pet dog to Tenerife for a limited period (say three months)?
Some idea of the cost would be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • The cheaper option is to get from the UK y ferry - if that is your starting point - to mainland Spain and then, after a day or so motoring, get a ferry from Huelva or Cadiz to Santa Cruz.  There are usually kennel arrangements on board.

Alternatively, by air, but the cost is  very high, especially as you are suggesting for just 3 months.

  • It depends where in UK you are travelling from, Manchester was the cheapest when I did my research, my dog was fine when I flew him over, they sleep in the hold and it's kept at a nice temperature and the lights are dimmed. When they come through at this end they go to a holding warehouse, (they lost our dog but don't let that scare you - we knew he had landed just didn't know where he was being held), dogs from other countries go elsewhere but we were told all UK dogs go to this holding warehouse beside the Cepsa fuel tanks. Check with the carrier as things may have changed now. It cost about 1100 in total for our dog and that included the crate, vets fees etc etc

  • Thanks for your replies.
I shipped my 2 dogs and 2 cats from South Africa some years ago when quaranteen was required.
These days with the pet passport scheme everything is much simpler and we travel in mainland Europe with our pets but we also go to LG every year for between 2 weeks and a month and thought of extending the LG time as we are so fed up with the UK weather.
My boss wouldnt do that without her pets.
I will look into the ferry option first.
