SEA RESCUE ON FRI AFTERNOON 28TH OCT

  • Just wondered if anyone knew what happened to the British guy that was rescued, I had heard he had gone over the wall at the natural pool and had been pulled out alive (v v v lucky indeed), the helicopter was out and a rescue boat called out from the marina. The sea has been very rough over the past few days, particularly Sunday, bathers need to be careful !!

Also tonight a lot of helicopter activity around the cliff area, does anyone now what is going on?

  • I have had no press releases regarding either of these events.  I did witness the events around the cliff area.  It did not appear to be a swimmer.  There was a lot of activity on the pathway along the cliff.  I assumed it was a paraglider in trouble (please note the word assumed)

However, to my horror, the waves were crashing in, the red flag was displayed and as usual there were stupid people in the sea.  How many more deaths before people realise the red flag should not be ignored.

I've had a day off today - no diving, sea too rough, in fact no boats have been out.  Huge waves pounding over the wall all day.  A bow line on our dive boat snapped overnight, it was 1 inch thick, luckily no damage, just shows the power of those waves.

Picture below was actually taken in the storm of 2003.  Todays waves were just as high - did anyone get a good picture today.  If so email it to me and I waill replace the one below.

  • There was a cliff rescue.  Someone was lowered from the helicopter and two winched back.  It was at the Marina end.  Unfortunately it was starting to get darkish so could not tell any more than that despite having a telescope.  Took the helicopter a while to spot the person.
