They are situated on Los Gigantes Marina and run all the BSAC and PADI courses.

  •  :)I have to hand it to you Billi 161. You are certainly doing a very thorough research of all ameneties relating to the area well in advance of your holiday. I hope it all works out well for you , and you have a great time in P Santiago/Los Gigantes.
Let us know when you return what you thought of everthing and if the information you received was useful. Also if you felt you had made the right choice staying outside the village.
I personally would never stay anywhere but in the village itself as everthing is to hand and there is a definite feel of a community there. Its great :)

Until fairly recently Spanish law stated no diving for under 16's.  New Spanish law now permits training from 12yrs...........  However, some 12 year olds are too small to carry the kit, or fit into it, can't cope with the theory etc.  It is really up to the common sence of the parents and the dive centre staff to assess the child's capabilities.  Some dive centres insist that a parent is present for safety reasons etc. for under 16's.

Contact the dive centre and have a chat with them.

  • Nev at Los Gigantes Diving Centre is fully legal, carries all the required safety equipment, including oxygen, and most important has the boat manned at all times when divers are down.

Can't comment on the other Centres cos I don't know.

    Questions to ask Dive Centres:-

Are the Centre and boats legal?

What are Instructors qualifications? They must be DiveMaster or Instructor to do Try endash  A- Dives, or lead qualified divers. MUST be Instructor level to do courses.

Is safety equipment including oxygen carried on all dives?

and most important (required by law) is the boat manned when divers are down?

Sadly many centres on Tenerife ignore the law and leave their boats unattended while divers are down, putting their staff and customers at risk.

  • Thanks Edward.  That one did slip my mind.

Dive Centres should all carry liability insurance but also check that each Divemaster and Instructor have their own personal Liability Insurance.

  • Billi161. For someone who has never been here before, you seem to have the names of alot of people and alot of business'b4s and their locations. I have been here 15 years and do not know half as much as you. You have started and commented on around a dozen subjects. Everyone likes to know where they are going, but either you are trying to pull the wool over our eyes, or just a computer freak. I hope that if its the latter, you'b4ll put it down for the time you are on holiday, and give us all a rest from your repetitive comments on the same subjects, time and time again !!!!  :'( :P ::) :o ;D ;)

  • I think what Edward Bear means billi161 is that maybe you should click on the search button before asking questions as MAYBE some of your queries have already been answered.

I wouldn't worry at all by the criticism levelled at you by others, most, if not all of them are quite uninterested in helping holiday makers to have a better experience, they merely use this message board to vent their childish feelings in the hope of impressing some other sad person.  Sadly the owners of the message board are not bright enough to see that all these people do is damage the repitation of both Los Gigantes and the message board itself, they contribute nothing, and were the owners of the message board to have more sense they would simply prevent them from gaining regular access.

In spite of all that I do hope you enjoy your holiday

  • The Los Gigantes Diving Centre is run and owed by Nev Widderington.
My family have all completed Diving Courses at the Centre.
As an ex Proffessional Diver I would not permit them to go anywhere else.
    Enough said ???
