  • Yes there have been rock falls in the past. One only last month and a larger one a few years ago that flattened Jessi's but none that have taken lives before. It is a sad moment for all of us here and our thoughts are with the families now.

  • Yes there was a rockfall as recent as October 7 and were it not for the inadequaces and ineptitude of the local council, the beach should have been closed then.  Ok they've closed it now but "after the horse has bolted", so sad for the families and friends of the two victims, one a 22 year old girl from Adeje the other a 57 year old British woman.

Perhaps the local British councillor would care to comment.

    Condolences to all those affected.

  • The English woman who died in this trajic incident is Marion Auril O?Hara aged 57yrs.  She arrived in Tenerife with other members of her family only the day before the incident.  The occasion to be celebrated was a 60th birthday.

  • Yes Jessis is a cracking place for a meal and it would be a shame to lose it. They are probably struggling with the credit crunch in any case. Can I suggest that people visiting Los Gig show some support and spend some money there.

  • The beach is fenced off at the little roundabout.  The beach road is deserted and the businesses along the road are suffering badly.

  • Yes my heart goes out to the families who have been affected by this, one doesn't expect to go on holiday and not return.
We are out in a couple of weeks and in previous years have always had a few meals and very nice coffee at Jessis.
We don't tend to go on the beach but love to just sit and watch, either with lunch or an evening meal or just the best coffee in L.G.
It will be a blow for all the business's on the beach road and as times are hard anyway if the beach remains closed over Xmas then many will fail to survive.
It is all very very sad.

Here you go again spouting off about the councillor coming onto an open forum to tell you things, as I said the last time to you that if you require his services then go and see him at the council surgery.

  • Don't be silly. This is not a private matter. It is clearly in the public domain. It has been reported worldwide  and it is now universally known that Los Gigantes beach is dangerously unsafe.

Los Gigantes is a tourist resort which relies heavily on income brought in by visitors. The ?dangerous beach? issue needs to be resolved quickly and the solution publicised internationally or dire economic consequences will result.

Councillor McKenna was elected for his ability to communicate with the British ex pat population, so let's hear him communicating quickly and effectively. His silence is a dereliction of duty.

  • If you wish to discuss this matter, or any other subject with Councillor McKenna, you can arrange an appointment with him at his office in Playa arena.  He will not answer to an unknown on a public forum.

The Council aim to open the beach as soon as it is safe to do so. Plans for the work needed are being discussed.  Also compensation to businesses on the beach road is under discussion.  Los Gigantes.com will post the press releases as soon as we receive them.

  • In the meantime, perhaps the Council should allow tourists free access to the Lido and/or run a free bus service for tourists from the Marina to Playa Arena Beach.

  • The local Mayor has posted his up to date comments about the current situation on the beach and  I'm sure we will all know more as soon as the news is available.   Don't people realize that this is major works and cannot be sorted out overnight.  Unless some of you wish Steve to go there with his little shovel ?????????????????    I ask you, do you people not live in the real world ?
