  • Coming back over to Tenerife for the third time on the 14th of August and was wondering two things

The hotel that was being built last year behind Playa La Arena hotel is it finished yet?
Also, there is a Football club next to Playa La Arena hotel does anybody know if you can get in during the daytime or is it a membership club for residents of the Island?

  • The new Costa Los Gigantes hotel was scheduled to open March 2008.  Today they are still painting it.  I believe they are to open later this week.  I will announce its opening as soon as I know.

I'm not a football fan and I didn't know the answer to your question about the football ground but according to staff at the Playa Arene hotel you can call in and arrange a game.  It is not restricted to members only.  Does anyone have any better info on this?

  •  Re the football ground, it was the Escuela de Futbol Municipal de Santiago del Teide, funded by the local council. I think it's now just called CF Puerto de Santiago. Anyone's welcome to go in and watch. It's got one of the best synthetic pitches I've ever seen and it enables them to play from morning until night. Run teams of all ages right from the  very young children  right through to a first team ( sometimes there is a charge of a few euros to watch the senior team ). Nice bar in the corner of the ground and a friendly lot of locals get in there and will be happy to tell you about the ground and the teams. Because of the cultural mix of the area quite a few people speak English if your Spanish isn't up to it. Fixtures are posted on a board in the ground and published in El Dia on a Friday. Go along and mix with the locals and broaden your experience of the area, and watch a game on a lovely warm evening with a nice cold Dorada. When ever I'm out there I turn up and watch some games. I've adopted it as my " Tenerife club " for my regular fix of live football.
The sports centre futher up the road has a great indoor pitch plus other great facilities including an indoor swimming pool, squash & tennis courts and gyms.

  • Thanks, Do you know if you can play on there though?

And where is this sports centre? I have never heard of it and would be interested to see how much it would be to go in and play.

Thanks for the responces so far.

  • Check out www.deportesantiagodelteide.com should have everything you want to know about the sporting facilities in the area. The Pancracio Socas Garcia Sports Complex is a few hundred yards up the hill past the Playa la Arena hotel and is open to tourists as well as locals.

  • Thanks, Just had a look at the website and its handy English translation bit. So to rent the Football pitches I have to go to the Pancracio Socas Sports Complex and book it and they will unlock it? It says that to hire a Football pitch for an hour is 24 euro's. Does that mean you get to choose the pitch etc.?

Slightly confused, hopefully will become clear when i visit in August.
