I am having trouble with my Internet explorer. It is doing some very odd things.Sometimes it will completely close the page i am visiting for no reason or it will be very slow loading pages and when i say slow i mean very very very slow for eg i tried to google something and after 10 minutes of the page trying to load i gave up.I thought that it was perhaps the topic i was searching so i tried putting in random things to see if that made any difference but it didn't.Another problem i had was when i was on a forum and clicked on a link and nothing happened i tried to open a new tab and that wouldn't work either and it would let me access any options that are in my tools menu.i had to restart my computer.Just to let you know i have high speed Internet connection. Thanks in advance to anyone that helps me with this problem.

  • Good Morning Helen. I am not particularly computer literate however I would suggest that you run your anti virus programme at least once to see if that improves things. Secondly I would remove all the cookies to give the computer memory a chance. See how you go with that and in the morning Gigi our Moderator is pretty slick on these things and I am sure that she will be able to help. Good Luck.

  • Hi Helen,  this problem could be caused by many things including your telephone line or modem connection but more than likely you have picked up spyware or a trojan  which has taken over your computer which is now being used to relay spam whenever you go online.

Edwardquote s solution to clear out your temporary internet files is the first step (I would also clean out your Favourites as well, as the bugs often hide there too) but more often than not the bug has infected your computerquote s registry.  If you donquote t have up to date security programs you can pick them up for free on the internet  (however itquote s far easier to prevent an attack than remedy the problem once it has happened).

If you have no security software then I would suggest that you go on another PC with a CD writer, download / save some free security programs, copy the zipped  files  to disc, copy them again to the desktop  on your own computer and install and run. If you have no anti-virus I would recommend the AVG Free Edition (but unfortunately itquote s being discontinued in February).

I would also recommend two freeware anti-spyware  programs, Spybot Search and Destroy  and Ad-Aware SE.  I would not download any free software from the internet which has not been recommended as a lot of it contains spyware.

  • I thought the message could be spam. It raises a problem leaving it open for the spammer to come back and recommend a commercial solution. Let's wait and see.
