POLICE FAILING US

  • I was walking my dog around the Puerto Santiago area at 5.45am this morning, like I do most days.
Every morning its peacefull, calm and tranquil. Except Saturday and Especially SUNDAY mornings.

But this Sunday morning, between around 5.30 and 6.30 am there were around 80 idiots on the rampage, in front and around the Hotel Barcelo Santiago. Normally there are a couple of dozen but today it was manic. They were screaming, throwing bottles smashing signs and breaking car mirrors.

This happends when the karaoke bar and later on the new Studio 3 close. The damage each week is getting beyond a joke and something needs to be done. I kept walking the German Sheppard for an hour watching (good job my dog is big) feeling sure the Local or Guardia would turn up and.......

they did turn up. The Locals that is, at 8.45am putting parking tickets on cars.

So if you are a Criminal and want to commit crime, may I suggest that 5 - 7am seems to be a good time to do it, as the the Police are either in a Bar, asleep or just not interested.

They know what time these bars close at the weekend, is it too much trouble for them to be patrolling the area, considering they are the only bars open at that time in this area ????????!!!!!!!!!

  • I Don't Understand How These Bars Can Stay Open Till Gone 6.00AM In The Morning. They Never Used To Allow Any Bar To Stay Open That Late. Highland Paddy 2 Used To Be The Last To Close At Around 4AM. I'm Shocked That The Police Are Not There In Some Force Every Week To Move Them All Off Home. It Makes You Wonder WHERE The Police Are ?

  • exactly, where are the police, considering these are the only 2 bars open in the area at this time of the morning. maybe the police should be more accountable for their movements........  ::)

  • Saddens me to hear such a lovely place is affected in this way.   Hope the authorities can sort it out quickly.

  • I too am in disbelief at the lack of Police presence at the weekends, when these bars close.

On Sunday morning one of our new cars, that was parked outside our office, had its wing dented in. It is that bad that it requires a new one. Very annoying considering the cars has only 24 kms on the clock.
Also one on our signs which is permanently displayed and secured with bungee cords, had the cords cut with a knife and the sign was smashed to pieces.

I wouldn't say this is a weekly occurrence, but about once a month we have damage caused to something, a mirror, a dent or just willfull scratches on a car. The cost of the damage this weekend is over 300 euros. The Police do come round, from time to time, but just drive by and very rarely are they walking round checking things.

Its very disappointing and something that could easily be sorted out with a greater Police presence.

  • Plus the fact that a lot of them, when they come out these bars are Canarian and drunk, get in there own cars, revving them for several minutes, with music on, and then drive home. Surely from a safety point of view, the Police should be there to stop them driving !

  • As well as problems with damage to property and cars, guests at the Barcelo Santiago Hotel must get pretty fed up with the noise. It would certainly put me off staying there again.

  • I was also out walking my dog around 7 on Sunday - I saw all of the damage but there was no-else around at that time, maybe no one called the police, I'm sure the hotel with all of the commition would have called them, I have to say I live close by and was up at that time but I never heard a thing.

  • To be straight to the point, this IS the sort of thing to talk to Councillor McKenna about, but not at his business the Chicken Shack he has a office and you can arrange to see him there and he will try to help.

I am sure on the night that was first mentioned in this string you will find the police were very busy in Santiago del Teidi or El Moledo or and by the time they got there after the busy night, all that was left to do was to book some guilty cars that couldn't argue  teehee
