Playa de la Arena beach - Keep Off!

  • ?Keep off our ?Playa de la Arena? beach!? Well, of course I don?t really mean that. It is arguably the best beach in the area and great to see it used so much. What I really mean is ?keep off using the name of our beach incorrectly? and don?t pretend it is anywhere but in Playa de la Arena.

I know Puerto Santiago used to ?own? Playa de la Arena and technically the area is still in Puerto Santiago, but there are now 3 distinctively towns, each with their own beach. The Puerto Santiago beach down by the harbour is quaint, very sheltered and kept extremely clean. This area has been given a great face-lift recently and the tree and shrub planting seems to be taking well. All together a great place to relax.

Los Gigantes also has a good size beach, in fact the largest in the area. May I suggest a nice big sign pointing the way to the beach, as it is so under-used. Local traders in this area would welcome the additional passing trade I am sure.

My real problem is the misrepresentation of holiday companies, sales organisations and apartment renters, many who show the Playa Arena beach instead of their own, presumably because our beach is ?Blue Flag? rated, with a lifeguard.

Oh yes, and whilst on the subject of misrepresentation how about the massive area currently being built behind Puerto Santiago and being marketed as ?Playa Arena Village?. You must be ?having a laugh?!

  • I was rather impressed with Playa Arena Beach over the Christmas period. I had never seen it so full and full of life. The good weather helped and the big waves provided a lot of entertainment.

Can?t say that I go along with your view of seeing the three places as distinctly separate and different. From a marketing perspective, each  one benefits significantly  from its close proximity to the other two.

  • Perhaps you are right Falstaff, I did come over as a wee bit grumpy and Playa Arena does of course gain from being close to 'The Giants'!
