  • Maybe they should put the barrier and ticket m/c up the hill on the way into LG, as the whole village is like a car park, and usually full.

  • Tourist numbers seem to be reduced over recent years, while cars appear to increase yearly. Maybe there should be free parking for a couple of hours, and residents or owners can apply for permit. It would stop cars parking long term, am sure some cars have not been moved for months. Can tell this by their dust covering.

  • I remember our first vist some years back. The coach dropped us off at the Little Italy restaurant with our luggage and children.

It was a bit of a night mare.

Are those barriers by the crossing to the Lido Pablado.

  • I wonder how many cars on this coastline belong to the hire companies ? I have a feeling that the answer might shock us.

  • Ok, a very simple question then. We hire a car for two weeks or a month, we used to leave it near Sombrero, or the surounding roads. Where do we leave it now if the roads are deemed short parking only?

  • How about demolishing the Royal Sun (aka Los Gigantes Paradise) and turning it into a multi storey car park.  You have heard of a room with a view - why not a car park with a view.  Visitors could park prettily on the tiers with panoramic views over the village whilst eating their sandwiches and enjoying a  flask of tea.

Dolly - could be the attendant (taking the money)

    Falstaff - issues the tickets

Edward Bear  - car park liason officer (uniform provided)

    LosGigantesKid - chief clamper

Here's a very simple answer Davymar - if you hire a car from one of the rental companies in the village, merely park your car in the same place that the car rental company would have parked it had you not hired it !!

  • We've always thought it would be nice if parking wasn't allowed in front of the restaurants along the front of the Marina.  Think how lovely it would be to sit at El Ancla or any of the other restaurants, and have a view of the boats rather than a row of cars in front of you!

  • So, if they clear all parking from the marina the bars and restaurants will loose too much trade.

Where will all the boat owners park? There is little enough parking in the village without restricting it more.

Don't agree  Dolly - I too would prefer to see the harbour front pedestrianised - its not too relaxing sitting at the bars down by the harbour staring up the exhaust pipe of cars that are parked just a couple of feet away from where you are drinking/eating - the vehicles also block the view of the boats in the harbour.

I believe if the area was restricted for pedestrians only say after 10.00am (prior to that time allowing delivery vehicles only) there would be an increase of customers to the bars etc improving business in that area.  I do have some sympathy for boat owners as more often than not they do have a need for easy access to their motor vehicles for transfering fishing/diving equipment or what have you from one to tuther

This is a problem I agree, but do the wishes of the local boatowners wishing to have easy access to their boats take precedence over the wishes of the holidaymakers (and probably bar owners along the harbourside) who after all keep those said businesses afloat (excuse the pun)

For sure there is inadequate parking in and around the village, but that is just how Los Gigantes has been allowed to develop over the years, find a small piece of land, lets build something on it. Little thought as to how these businesses/homes are going to find adequate parking spaces.

The introduction of the newly constructed car park outside the village in Peurto Santiago which has remained closed since its completion would help somewhat with car parking in the area, but as I have said before on another thread regarding car parking, unless and until restricted parking applies in the roads around the area, motorists would only use the new pay car park when they are convinced free street parking has all been taken and no other spaces are available.

The roads around Vagilia Park are a nightmare to find a parking space for  both visitors and residents.

Motorists have had troubles parking in and around LG for quite a while and I guess will continue to do so, its all part of life in Los Gigantes !

  • Well, we are also boat owners and have often put off going out on our boat for the day because we can see from our terrace that there is no parking!  In fact, we have always complained that the parking is taken by holiday makers and people on the beach and should really be allocated to boat owners, as is the case with most Marina's.  I believe the parking around the Marina isn't owned by the Ayuntamiento but by Agigansa, the company who own the Marina, who have made all the improvements to the Marina recently, including the new tarmac and pontoons for the boats.  But it's the boat owners who have paid for this - we had to pay over 3000 Euros recently as our contribution based on a 6 meter berth, so actually feel a bit miffed when we hear we will have to pay to park now!
I guess it's just bad planning by the Ayuntamiento because they should have made sure there was sufficient parking elsewhere in the village before allowing new developments and should have insisted every new development included it's own parking.  Too late now - how about filling in the Lido - always thought that would make an excellent area for parking!!!

  • This photo proposal could solve the problems of parking in the marina !!

I think the council suggested it a few years ago, but due to costs it has been delayed.

  • I feel sorry for any berth owners in the marina, not only having been charged for improvement's, I understand you also pay a monthly/annual service charge, plus now parking. What is the point of ownership. And is it not also on a decreasing lease.

  • I understand that there have been problems in the recent past with boat owners not paying their mooring fees, and having uninterrupted access to their boats, merely enjoyed the mooring rights without paying for them.

Is this not why the powers that be introduced lockable gates to the entrance of each pontoon - giving keys of access to owners only when their mooring fee account was up to date.  This in turn allowed money to be spent improving the harbourside

  • No, I think the gates came with the update/improvements, generally I believe they chain up a boat and long term impounded it to sell on. The sharks are not always outside the marina.

  • You're right Los Gigantes kid, lots of owners refused to pay up and they were not allowed access to their boats.  It went to a court case which has only just been sorted but it was very difficult to know whether to pay up or not because of the politics involved between the harbour owners and the so called community of owners.  We didn't understand really what it was all about but in the end figured it was best to pay up and glad we did because the non-payers were all taken to court and we had access to our boat.  The gates I think were all part of the Marina improvements but equally of course, gave the Marina power over the owners to force them to pay!
And yes Pilgrim - we also have to pay a community fee of about 55 Euros per month for services - fresh water, power, lighting, security - but obviously not parking!!

  • It's a Four Winns - 225.  It's lovely but about 15 years old now.  We've had a lot of fun with it over the years and love it, but we wonder now if it would be best to sell it as it's getting on a bit (like me!)
