My latest visit

  • I haven't posted for a while but thought I would share some of my thoughts with you following on from my recent visit.

We normally come out in February but came in September as well this year.  We did think the village was very quiet and wondered if it is normally like this in September or is this the way it's going.  In February we normally see an awful lot of swallows who fill the restaurants so supposed this was the difference.

We had fantastic weather and in fact found it very hot as we have not had any summer here in the UK to build up to it.

We were very surprised to see Mirandas so quiet and in fact on several occasions, only two tables were occupied when passing.  We ate at the Wine Bar quite a lot as we stay in the Harbour Club (don't start - each to their own!!).  We had some very nice meals and were surprised at how busy it got most evenings.  Contrary to previous postings, we thought the entertainment was quite good and would like to say a particular thanks to Jools who when not serving on tables in her usual friendly manner, was entertaining us with her singing.  We would also like to thank Adam for his hard work and hope things continue to go well for him. We also ate at the Tipsy Terrace in the evening and were impressed with the recent refurbishments.  We had a very pleasant meal with very good service (Jools' husband!).  I have to say the best service we had during our stay was in Little Italy which surprised us as in the past we hadn't rated this restaurant.  I think it was because the restaurant was quieter and we were able to get a good table overlooking the sunset.

The only thing that went wrong, was that we were with XL and didn't know for a while how we were getting home.  (Not that this would have bothered me really as I was quite content to get stranded in LG!).  Anyway it all turned out well and as we were ATOL protected, Monarch flew us home at no extra costs.  Our heart goes out to all those who were not so lucky.

I remain a LG fan and hope that we continue to enjoy our stays although at the moment, we are finding it very difficult to book a reasonably priced flight as they seem to be cashing in on recent events.  Lets hope it will improve as I do think it may have considerable effect on the economy of the village.

  • Now't wrong with Harbour Club, Blaggers.  You should not feel you have to hide your pleasure in staying there.  Sept is normally quiet and, for miserable old sods like me, fine, but even I feel sorry for the business people.  And, sad to say, many of the Swallows from the past no longer inhabit this place but have gone to pastures anew - prefer a bar myself with miserable old sods like me!!  Come Oct we all hope it will get better or otherwise I may have to turn off the lights!!

The current levy of ?1 per person from ATOL protected Companies (who are legally bound to do this - they have no choice) is no doubt a pretty ongoing sum.
With plenty left in the Kitty to provide a Taxi home from the Airport.

Those unlucky were Direct Ticket Buyers.

In these times - there seems no reason why they should not be included by the CAA (Government Quango) as part of the Scheme.
Surely the UK Government would not think it was a good idea? Always ready to pull out all stops for the people it represents, not just
watch even more people struggling to get back to the UK...
