My impression

  • I seem to get the impression that the Hotel Los Gigantes is not popular with locals and others, is it because in the past it has been known to attract "older guests" (Thomson Old) who maybe do not spend as much in the village as people who stay self catering.  My husband and I love the hotel but also love all the bars e.g Bamboo Bar and Richardsons where we are always made to feel welcome and also remembered from previous visits over the years.

It really annoys me when I read comments ( re under letting post) about the hotel, so maybe everybody will be happy now that it will be a couples hotel from August and  attract a younger clientele of all nationalities.  By the way I do not class myself as an oldie in my fifties!!!!!!!!

  • I live here and I don't get that impression at all, infact I've stayed there many times myself before I lived here. I'm really looking forward to it re-opening and hope it does bring in some much needed 'young' ones to the area and 'fresh' tourists tothe area, I'm also not old, if being in your late 40's is classed as old !!

  • I think that : Domingos; would miss the spending power of the hotel guests! I watched them knocking back top shelf doubles last time we were there. I was rolling on the floor laughing at one drunken OAP trying to get his wheelchair up the hill, it was like an out of control supermarket trolly. Fortunately one of the staff pushed him home. Some of the guests are not short of a shilling. :)

  • The only thing I have got against the hotel is that is so ugly. It was here long before I was so have to live with its design which was of its era. I doubt if it will be pulled down in my lifetime. The refurb is changing it slightly but it is still a blot on the landscape. So is Gigansol and other apartment communities so we just have to live with it.
Can't wait to see it reopen.

    Dear LG Lover

Sorry if it was I that caused any offence re the Hotel.  I have also stayed there 3 times over the past 26 years but am now not able to because I have a son. Luckily I was able to return to LG, a place I love dearly, because my lovely uncle allows me to 'air' his apartment during the summer months.

I guess my comment was borne slightly out of peeve because I am unable to go there anymore.  Saying that, now that I have experienced LG as a non-hotel resident, I much prefer it this way and have tried out many wonderful restaurants and bars, which I probably wouldn't have done as much of if I'd been staying at the hotel.  I do, however have a BIG problem with the letting law in the Canaries as I think it is totally short-sighted and ridiculous.  LG needs people to spend their money in the local establishments to survive and the whole ethos of All Inclusive is usually that people won't spend outside because they've already paid for their holiday, meals and all refreshments.  Is the hotel an AI resort? I know it was only half-board a couple of years ago as I got chatting to a couple in Ocean Drive who went there as often as they could for their after dinner brandies as they were half the price!!

I'm in my late forties and also don't consider myself to be an oldie (yet!).

    xx

  • Hi Caroline

No offence taken I don't know what it is about the Los G Hotel I think I would probably defend it to the hilt, it is just a place that I want to return to year after year and there are not many places that have that effect these days.

When the Hotel re opens it will be a couples hotel,  there is a choice of half board or full board but this does not include all your drinks and not many people when we are there seem to choose the full board option.

It will also not be exclusive to Thomson in the UK there will be all nationalities there which can only be a good thing because other Europeans tend to demand a better service than us Brits. It will be fun to see if the Brits are first to get their towels on a sunbed in the mornings!!!!!!!!
