Mini Bus

  • I will need a 12-passenger mini bus with driver in January for transport to and from Las Americas.  Is there a RELIABLE company with an English speaking contact?  I will definitely NOT consider El Mar.

  • I am surprised to hear the negativity towards Elmar. I have used them on over 100 occasions to and from TFS over the last 13 years and I can honestly say that on each occasion I have always received an excellant and reliable service. I also have many friends and aquaintances who use their service and their experiances have also been positive. I would be interested to hear other peoples opinion of Elmar.

  • Have used RESORTHOPPER twice, cheaper than ELMAR and very efficient. Offering a discount if you book now.

Yes, I have also found Elmar Services to be reliable and welcoming. Over the past seven years and many arrivals and departures we have always used Elmar and have had no problems. Considering that we are headed for Puerto Santiago, at the very end of the line so to speak, we have only very rarely had to suffer a diversion through Las Americas or other destination en-route. But never on a return journey to the airport which is always direct non-stop.

So what's so much better about Sun Holidays ? I see that their website is 'under construction'.

  • el mar left me and my children and another family waiting for them recently. we nearly missed our flight. we had to try and get taxis to take us to the airport.  it was very very stressful as our villa isnt on a main run so not easy to get taxis last minute.  el mar just said 'coming, coming'.  rubbish.  i will never use them again and i never recommend them. :'(

i do use ronald at sun holidays and recommend him.  same price as el mar but reliable. thats why.

  • Well said Janey,
I used el mar when they first started and for a few years they were ok untill they got bigger & bigger and forgot what got them to that size the CUSTOMER they left my wife and myself stranded on a Sunday when they failed to collect us although we had paid in advance, they did not answer their phone we had to get a taxi & trying to get the money back from them was like drawing teeth.

Pete you have been very lucky we got fed up with seeing parts of LA nobody wants to see and with Sun you pay the driver when they have got to where you want to go not in advance. In the years we have used them & our customers they they have never let us down or ventured in to LA once that is the DIFFERENCE

  • Thanks for your responses, particularly the positive remarks about Sun.  I will give them a go.

I didn't want to bore you with the details of my reason for not wanting to use El Mar, so skip this if you wish.  I booked a bus for 13 passengers, LG to LA, to go to the Bitter & Twisted dinner show (which is excellent, by the way).  This was meant to happen last Moday evening.  To be fair to El Mar, I did not book the transport directly with them but booked both the transport and show through XXXXX in Puerto Santiago.  Big mistake!  I specified that I did not want to use El Mar, as I had had a previous no-show experience with them, and was promised compliance with my wish. I pre-paid XXXXX 130 euros for the bus, with the show to be paid on arrival. Fortunately, as we failed to arrive because the bus never turned up.  I alerted XXXXX to this when the bus was 5 minutes late and they promised immediate action.  One hour later we were freezing and received a call from XXXXX to say there would be no bus.

I contacted XXXXX and El Mar on Tuesday.  XXXXX said it was between me and El Mar, El Mar said they could only refund XXXXX. I persisted and eventually arranged for a refund of the full amount from XXXXX.  After several unanswered and non-returned calls I eventually agreed to meet with XXXXX outside their offices (now apparently closed down).  I was refunded the full amount, less 10 euros which, after protesting on the principal of the matter, was promised for delivery to me today.  Guess what - no 10 euros and calls unanswered by XXXXX.  So I called El Mar again and was advised that they had refunded the full amount to XXXXX.  El mar admitted that they had been paid the full amount in advance by XXXXX although they had to make several trips to XXXXX's office to obtain this.  However, they had forgotten to log my booking!  Hence, no bus.

The result of all this....13 very dissapointed people looking forward to a pre-Christmas bash;  Bitter & Twisted's theatre venue down 12 covers;  four days of unwelcome stress trying to sort this out.

So, be wary of El Mar, although they have apologised profusely (sadly, for the second time in my experience).  Don't pay anything in advance.  I can't even bring myself to suggest what you should do with XXXXX.  Fortunately for everyone, it looks like they have closed their business.

I didn't expand on the identity of XXXXX because (a) This thread is about El Mar, (b) XXXXX is apparently no longer a threat to the population (c) I frankly can't bring myself to mention their name.

  • Since 1996 'The Family' have never had any problems with El Mar, except when the taxi drivers had an altercation with mini-bus firms (think 1998), but they refunded the monies paid.  Quess some people are just unlucky.
