  • When over in January we visited Masca as usual and were told by the english lady selling Jewellery in the square [ incidently her home was totally destroyed by the fire ] that a British TV company were making a film about disasters of 2007 and featuring Masca. It was due to be shown soon but althouigh I have kept my eyes peeled I have either missed it or it hasnt yet been shown. Does anyone know anything about this.

Masca is still a beautiful place and the villagers have obviously worked extremely hard to recover. Full marks to them.

  • Why so rude Alex?  Masca suffered terrible damage last year when the forest fires raged through the island. Sorry Annie, know nothing of this programme but would also be interested to watch it. :)

  • Annie your question and concern about Masca was sensible. Don?t let the unnecessary comment put you off participating on this forum.

We were approached by a UK film production company a while back enquiring about our library footage for a programme about the forest fires. We understand that the project is on hold at the moment.  If and when the programme is produced I will announce it on the board.

The losgigantes team were out all night filming on the night of the fires ? and the aftermath.  We are busy preparing a short video clip for our ?coming soon? video section of losgigantes.com

  • I agree entirely with Annie's senitments about Masca.  Seeing the fire damage for the first time brought tears to my eyes. I can't begin to imagine how the people who lost homes, gardens, crops and businesses felt.

In time, it will be restored to the green and beautiful place it was.

  • I have just tried to play video on 'catch-up' but it came back saying video couldn't be played - do you have to register somewhere else on ITV website if you want to use 'catch-up'

  • Thanks maps . Purely by chance I watched this programme not knowing that the Masca footage would be on it . Yes It is very sad but the english lady filmed told us that her property was being completely rebuilt by the government and hopefully ready sometime this summer. I think she and her husband may be the only English resident in Masca.

  • Didnt see the programme !!!! is there anywhere it can been seen other than ITV ??? I dont have English TV ! Send me a link someone PLEASE.

I was in Masca a in January and went to visit the owner of the restaurant and souvenir shop. He let go up into there private apartments above the restaurant to see the damage  !!!! HEARTBREAKING !  He allowed Me to take some photos, they are still waiting to see how the Tenerife Cabildo can help them out. They lost everything, and are surviving on the bit of shop theyve opened adjacent to the burnt out restaurant.

DOLLY DIVER, If you contact me I will send you the photos, maybe you can put them on the website, there are three photos  of the interior of the apartment, they really bring a tear to your eyes.

  • Thanks for your help Maps - still cannot watch the video, I am using windows and Adobe 7, the errors I'm getting just keep saying 'video not available - maybe there is an error in the ITV webpage, I've tried other videos off the same website and cannot view those either.

  • I get the same message 'problem playing video, try again later'.  I don't think it's associated with Adobe though.  Try again in a week or so - maybe ITV hasn't set it up yet.  It's worth watching - I watched it "live" on TV.  According to the current issue of the Tenerife Sun they are hopeful that the property concerned will be rebuilt with Government help by this summer.  I spoke to a visitor today who had been to Masca and hadn't realised there had been a fire until he noticed the palm tree trunks.  Very encouraging!

  • I note that those people who cannot view the video all live in Tenerife.

If you click on the ITV website's help link there is a question asking why viewers who live outside the UK cannot view videos on their site.

    The answer is:-

"We do not hold international rights to all of our programming so video content is supplied only to users with IP addresses in the UK. Some users in Britain may be affected by such geographic blocking if their internet service provider uses servers outside the UK."

Sorry folks but even paradise has its down side.
