Is your apartment safe from those sneak thieves?  Can you do more to secure your valuables?

A few days ago a Los Gigantes couple were robbed while they slept.  They agreed to tell their story to losgigantes.com in the hope it may save others from the same ordeal.

  • Both myself and mrs maps were sorry to read about Keith & Margaret?s misfortune. from what we have read there is no chance of catching the b-----ds  responsible . As they are both well know in the village and are both well known at the bamboo maybe a fund raiser on they?re behalf with the support of the locals would be a good gesture

Glad they are both safe which is the main thing

  • If the Local Police are not interested in investigating these matters properly,
the risk of these types of burglary will increase.

I must thank this couple for making this matter public, not only warning
residents but also intending visitors to the Los Gigantes area.

  • It?s not just Los Gigantes that has a problem, everywhere has a problem, and crime will most certainly increase as more and more people are put out of work due to the current crisis. The best we can do is to look at our homes, vehicles, garages etc and make them as secure as possible and always make sure purses and wallets are safely out of sight.
A dog is by far the best deterrent, no burglar wants even a yappy little dog to contend with.  I know many people are only winter residents and many people in rented accommodation aren?t allowed a dog, but there are many lovely natured dogs being looked after by the local animal charities which desperately need a good home and would make excellent guard dogs.

  • So sorry to hear about your break in.
Our friends got broken into last year in playa San Juan
It is not the local police job but the job of the guardia civil
we found out after wards, our friends asked the local police what happens next and they
said it was now in the hands of the guardia civil
So may be phone them up and ask what they are doing!
From our experience the local police here are lovely and do a good job

  • Why a fund raiser? Surely they were insured? If not, why not?

  • Keith and Margaret do have the necessary house insurance, but how long it will take to agree a figure with the insurance company is anyone?s guess. A payout will compensate for the goods stolen but not for the stress caused and the worry that it may happen again, to them or someone else ? which is the whole point of the story.
