  • Edward, I visit this site every day to keep in touch but I don't stay in Tenerife (my wish but work commitments &c.).  I could post but I'd feel a bit of a fraud. I do come over around three times a year (El Marques) and I suppose I'm envious of those of you who residents who can have a bit of banter. I'll be back 15th Jan for 3 weeks so I'll continue to scan the chat. Hopefully it'll be a better January, weather wise this year (been a bit poor the last couple of years). Hopefully your RIP was premature and we'll keep the chat going.

  • Like jambo I dont live in Gigantes but regularly visit. I also look at the message board most days and it certainly has gone quiet recently. Why is this do you think . I should have thought the Swallows would have returned for the winter by now and messages on the board would therefore have increased.

Annie - your post, whilst true - would mean that the swallows have left the UK and be in LG, hence do not post on the board, when they return for the British summer, that's when you will see them posting.  I have just returned from LG after several weeks and whilst i'm in and around LG I never look on the message board - too busy sunbathing !!

  • To answer the original post, the answer to why this board has got progressively quieter over recent times, is down to one, simple thing.....

    Politics .....

I would expand on this, but probably risk becoming somewhat unpopular and end up being banned - for exactly the reason above!

  • Janey you're quite right and I do post occasionally. I was only meaning that the residents maybe have more to offer given they're here all the time. I can offer opinions but they would only be based on my experience of being here for perhaps 6 weeks in the year. I'm more than happy to contribute though.

  • Edward you're more than entitled to enjoy your life out here after 50 years work. I just hope I can get over there permanently in a shorter timescale.

  • Oh dear.....

    Nice new board, but -

Down now to a few, rather uninteresting, posts a day and 374 members of whom 160 are listed as inactive.....

  • i have tried several times to logon to this site, but for months the system wouldn?t let me, it said i didn?t exist, i checked the bathroom mirror and i still had a reflection so i tried again. Next time i had to re-register, but it said my email address didn?t exist. Today for the 1st time since, it let me in.
Is this why there are so few messages ?, are other members having the same problems ?

  • Mr Max. Less postings at this time of the year is normal.  Everyone is enjoying Xmas and New Year.  Even I am trying to take a bit of time off.

Hygroscopio - The old style message board allowed computer generated registration requests.  I had to check every request manually  and it was very unfortunate that many genuine applications went into the same black hole as all those which were simply attempts at spam, and belive me there would have been a riot from board member if some of them had accidentally slipped through.  This new system does not allow computers to register therefore  the problem should  be solved.  However, if there are any attempts at posting any spam on this board the username will be banned and the posting deleted.

Let me know if there are problems as DaRKeTaMiN, our Web Master is continually looking at new ways to improve the site.

Happy New Year everyone - hope to see some of you in the square in Los Gigs tonight - but of course I won't know who you are!

  • Edward Bear my enthusiasm is now rekindled. I'll be out on Tuesday for three weeks and look forward to every minute of a well needed break. It's quite sad that I can look forward to a  Dorada Especial at Bar Camber whilst watching the world go by or a bottle of Reina at Bar La Caldera after my morning walk up the hill! Hope I can cope with the change in lifestyle!!
