  • I WAS LOOKING TO HIRE A CAR, THE OTHER MONTH. I GOT OFFERED SEVERAL, SOME BY WORD OF MOUTH, FROM PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS, BUT WHEN I LOOKED INTO IT, THEY WERE JUST PEOPLE RENTING THIER OWN CARS OUT. WHATEVER ANYONE DECIDES TO DO, MAKE SURE YOU RENT FROM A FULLY REGISTERED COMPANY AND RECEIVE A FULLY LEGAL RENTAL CONTRACT. IF NOT AND YOU ARE UNFORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, YOU WILL HAVE NO PERSONAL ACCIDENT INSURANCE AND THE INSURANCE ON THE CAR COULD WELL BE VOIDED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY, LEAVING YOU, AS THE DRIVER, TO BARE THE COST OF THE DAMAGE TO BOTH VEHICLES !  :'(

  • Just booked a car for Dec, Jan and Feb from Santiago Rent A Car. I have had one before for a short period, but the rates for the longer period are Fab. English Company with nice friendly staff.  Looking forward now to my 3 months of relaxation in the Sun. Roll on Christmas.  8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

  • I use a company located at the airport but the name has always been censored by this site (reasonably so, as they don't advertise on this site) so you would have to contact me by e-mail.  My e-mail address is registered on this site.  I pay approx 'a310/day for 8 - 11 weeks, inclusive of full insurance, for a Citroen Picasso, pick up/return at TFS.  All their cars are less than 6 months old, there is a rescue service and you can pay about 45 euros extra for additional insurance to cover tyres and windows, loss of keys, wrong fuel, etc.

I have looked at Santiago in the past but they wanted 125 euros a week ('a312.75/day approx) for a 1 year old Citroen C3 (much smaller than the Picasso), which is good but not as good as I currently get.  I think I might drop in to their office now I know where it is and see if I can negotiate a better deal.

  • Juan, I believe that your message was edited because direct contact details cannot be posted unless the company is an advertiser. I think you posted a website address.

However, had you suggested that the enquirer  search for a  company called  Email-Car-Hire  on Google then I believe your message  would not have been edited, but I stand to be corrected.

  • Falstaff, your a cunning devil!  You are, as usual, correct in all your assumptions.

Paulb - I received your message on my forum message board and have replied in full.  Hopefully you will receive this OK.  I think this is how the system works: - your first contact with me has to be via the message board; I reply; you then have my e-mail address.  Clever stuff and I'm sure it's all there for valid security reasons, so I'm not knocking it!
