  • walk to Mercadona in Puerto Santiago and go shopping, get a taxi back (4 euros), you'll have saved more than that anyway, and cater for yourselves 50% of the time,

think about what you are going to cook before you go and take the little "extras" you need (spices, sauce mixes etc) to prepare the meals you plan with you

for me cooking never seems to be such a chore when I'm there

  • By a "bono" bus ticket (15) and take the bus to Alcala or Playa San Juan, both have good restaurants and bars at prices for "locals"

  • Some if not all of the restaurants do take away at a reasonable price. You can eat in your apartment then go out for a few drinks and some entertainment.  Have fun  8)

  • We come out every xmas and new year and we eat in at least 4 out 7 days, we go to Mercadona to get our stuff and we do bring bits out with us, like nice cheese and things, we take a christmas pudding out and just things that would be dead expensive over there. Don't go to Transito as it is very expensive, I'm talking about a euro per carrot! Whereas in Mercadona you get a whole bag for a euro. Try and walk a lot of places so it saves you on cab fares. If you drink spirits have their spirits and not branded ones, have their beer and not branded beers, that will save a load of money. If you go out for a meal, just have a meal and not a starter or afters. Eat in most of the time and just go out for drinks, they do lovely sparkling wine in Mercadone for under 2.50 euros a bottle, and it is lovely wine, I only drink decent wine and it really is lovely wine. If you drink spirits, they do a bottle of smirnoff and stuff like that for around 11 euros. We always have a drink in before we go out, saves a little bit more money! I go down Puerto Santiago beach and I do pay the 3 euros for a bed but if you want to save yourself money, then just take your towel down there, hope this has helped x

  • Also some restaurant's do a set menu, say 3 courses for 12 ,  San Francisco oppo Barcelo does 2 good  steak dinners with a bottle of wine for 25 ,  If you are really struggling, Asturias in LG square does a 'menu del dia', that's 3 courses with bread and wine or beer for the incredible 7/8 , and menu changes daily. Our neighbour dines their nearly every day!
