Having been away for several weeks, I have spent this afternoon going back over threads for the past month to 6 weeks.  It is quite depressing.

Web cams not working for weeks on end.
Only two banks.
New businesses being damned before they begin
Local businesses charging more for services just because they are local as mentioned regarding Car hire.
Residents sniping at each other if their views differ.

I really think the residents (forum members) need to promote the area more rather than looking at all the negatives.  Nowhere is Nirvana every place has warts but unless you want the area to curl up and die, you should be pulling together to advertise the best that is around.  Or is this what people want, to keep everyone else out and just have their own little Britain.

PS:  The forum clock is wrong  ???

  • Regarding your comments about Car Hire, I'd just like to sat that we are still offering a Citroen C1, 4 door with Air Conditioning, for an ALL INCLUSIVE price of 75 Euros for 3 days.

All Inclusive means, no Deposit, No Insurance Excess and Full Collision Damage (CDW) including the Wheels, Tyres and All Glass. We also provide Free Child Seats.

Just pointing this out as 3 years ago we were charging 96 Euros for this Vehicle, so OUR Prices have not gone up, in fact have gone down, despite the recession.

Also if any other Local Company tries to beat our prices, which is highly unlikely as others do not offer the same all inclusive cover as us, we will beat their price.

Thank you for your comments, it is great to hear that you are doing your bit for the holiday-maker, I am sure you looked at the post I was referring to and could see where I was coming from.

If you would like to let me know exactly where you are located and a contact name and number I will happily refer prospective customers to you via Tripadviser.  At the moment the feeling on that forum is that the best deals to be had are by hiring at the airport rather than in the resort to the extent that some who only want a short time hire period will fiddle around with buses to get back to TFS.  I have some 8000 posts on TA so an OK reputation and many members ask me directly or send PMs asking for advice.

If there are other businesses out there that would like me to give them a referral just send me your details, what you can offer, and if you have a website.

Can I just clarify I do this because I feel passionately about the island and I am trying to do my bit at promoting Tenerife and particularly local businesses in these hard times, there is nothing in it for me other than that satisfaction that people return time and again because they have received good advice.

  • Chiquita, it is good to see someone who is as passionate as you are about this beautiful area of Tenerife.

Our Main Office is situated directly Opposite the Hotel Barcelo Santiago, in Puerto Santiago, but we have a Booking and Pick Up area from within S & G Minimarket, in the Arcade opposite Tamara Apartments in Los Gigantes.

The Office phone number is (0034) 922 861006 and our website is     www.rentacarsantiaco.com

We open 8.30 am till 8.30 pm 7 days a week.
We also have a 24 hour emergency number, so we are always contactable.
We can arrange Airport pick up and drop off from rentals of 7 days.
We normally have Special Offers available throughout the year and with no hidden extras, the price you see is the price you pay.
Unlike some, we also don't charge you 60 euros for a full tank of Petrol and considering my Largest Vehicle only takes 35 to fill up, this baffles me how some can do it !

We like to think we offer a more personal service and are available for any queries or advice throughout every day of the week.

My name is MARTIN and anyone can ask to speak to me directly, as I am in the main Office every morning.

I think we would all applaud RentaCar Santiago for offering what seems to be an unbeatable deal - what puzzles me is how you have been able to reduce your price by 22% and still make a profit, does that mean you were charging too high a price 3 years ago ?

I wish other businesses could reduce their prices by the same percentage

I will be coming to LG shortly and will contact you to see what you can do for me - did I read somewhere that if I mention this website that qualifies for a 10% discount ?

  • We have been able to reduce our prices, to attract more customers, by reducing certain overheads, so that we are able to offer Special Deals.

We do offer 10% discount for customers mentioning losgigantes.com when they book a vehicle with us.  This discount, however, is not offered on any Special Deals, only on the standard Company Leaflet Price. Our normal Special Offers always exceed the 10% discount.

We will price match any other Company in the area, but this rarely has to happen, as we are completely All Inclusive and others tend to make you leave a deposit, have an excess, in case of damage, or don't cover wheels, tyres or glass.

We strive to make customer care our No1 priority, that is why we open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you have a problem, you know you can get in touch with us. We won't be on a Siesta or closed for the Weekend !

I think we get the message Nidge, there is no need to SHOUT.  Unless of course you want to shout the praises of Rentacar Santiago and mention the company to anyone else you know who wants to hire a car.

Bit of a back-handed compliment that you are going to considering using the above company but I don?t think anyone has a right to know the whys and wherefores of someone else's  business.  As long as the poster is making a decent living, you are getting a good and it would now seem better deal and 3 years ago,  then just be happy, accept it and pass the word.  ;D ;D

  • Nice to see that you are offering a personal service at Santiago Rent a Car , Martin. It is just a shame that you were not the one to read my e-mail of a few weeks back which was not replied to, regarding long term car hire. If you are interested in my proposal then feel free to send me a personal e-mail.

  • Like it says on the tin! They do as they say. Have used them before, will be using them again next week. Takes all the effort out of getting to and from the airport. Have already negotiated two longer periods later in the year by email with Daniela. Haven't been able to better they're service or prices. First rate long may it continue!

I was merely making an observation that RCS can now offer the same deal at a price some 22% cheaper than it did in 2007.

RCS has made it's position clear in that it is able to do this by "reducing certain overheads" - one wonders what these overheads are which can be shelved in 2010 but seemingly not in 2007.

I cannot think of many (or any) items or services that are some 22% cheaper than they were in 2007 - but i'm sure you will tell me ! ;)

Well it doesn?t make me wonder what overheads have had to be shelved, I am sure there are many ways of doing this, reducing staff, re-negotiating rent, doing deals with vehicle suppliers, keeping vehicles for a few months longer than previously.  It doesn?t really matter how it is done, we have seen the results of what has been achieved and IMO it is no ones business but RentaCar Santiago's so for those people who need to hire a car they should be very pleased.

My point exactly - if the above had been done in 2007 prices could have been cheaper !!

  • Hi Martin , my e-mail to you was not on this message board but from your website. My offer is still open for discussion if you are interested , but not on this forum. I have always attempted to give my money to local businesses like yourselves where possible but unfortunately many are unable to display an entrepreneurial spirit and to think "out of the box" when times are hard.

  • The way we have cut overheads is really a Private one for us. There have been several things we have done, but lets just say we have not reduced staff and just to silence the demons about why we couldn't do this a couple of years ago, 2 things we have done are to move to a cheaper garage and reduce the number of cars we have on finance, we purchased for cash, something we were unable to do in 2007, as the finance hadn't finished !
