General strike - Wed 29th Sept

  • I have been asked by several people if I know any details of the strike due to take place on Wed 29th Sept.  I have had no official press release from the Ayuntamiento on the subject however, I am told that all banks, government offices, schools etc will be closed, bus companies, taxis will not be operating.  This will have a snowball effect as many people will not be able to get to work.

A couple who are due to fly home on wednesday have been told that they will fly but their luggage won't.  They have family who can take them to the airport but many people will be faced with a problem.

    Anyone know more than this?

  • All workers are free to strike if they don't agree with the Governments new policies.
Demonstrations are due to be held in Santa Cruz and as usual public transport will be the main public service affected.
I have heard that one aeroplane per company will  be leaving the south airport tomorrow, but this could change.
Taxis are self-employed so perhaps they will make the most of the strike!
    Buses certainly will be affected.
As with most strikes the situation could worsen or improve as the day progesses.
Sorry I cant be more helpfull.
