  • Hi to you all,
I am new to you all, but over many months i have been a "guest viewer" and i have to say that it has been very entertaining (more so than watching the repeats on TV) that i thought it was time to open up something new.
Sadly i think alot of you take to heart some of the contributors comments and get a little upset when obviously all they are doing is designed to take the MICKEY...... but some of what goes on is really funny and very enjoyable.
Having been to LG many times to chill out from the workload I must say that the village has lost a little of its charm, the traffic is terrible & bar prices have reached a high that will scare off people, hotels most now need to realise that bamboo and pine furniture are old hat and should really update their furnishings. Food standards well surely by now most of these topics have been covered but i have to say if you want a great meal then go no further than Juan Carlos....... Fantastic
Anyway look forward to inputting some of my own comments on the forum and joining in.

  • Yes it certainly has lost it's charm you just need to look around & see the tourist numbers.
For a start there are no late bars with good music, nightclubs or whatever so what is going to bring the younger people here?Nothing that's what!
The beach, well thats' a laugh as most of it has been cut off,no chance of getting anywhere near it on a Sunday so people go elsewhere.
I know you oldies out there came for somewhere QUIET to retire but this is taking it to extremes. >:(
So therein lies the problem, when you go to sell your apartments you will need to wait a hell of a long time for the young ones to get old.
LOS GIGS is BORING.MIND NUMBINGLY BORING.

  • Linda did I mention Las americas.NO.
What i'm talking about is the fact that there is no nightlife here at all.Well unless you count being out till 12 midnight nightlife.
Also, I don't think somehow 1 club of sorts would make it LA do you?
So if you don't mind I rather WOULD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-*
It's actually quite embarrising when people come up to ask "well where's the nightlife then around here".
Oh sorry I reply there is none.
I'm not old either but you bgin to feel it here.

  • Blue and Linda you both make good points somewhere that's stayed open a little longer would be great in the village, But remember it is only a small place and the noise levels would have to be kept down. maybe the owner of the wine bar or somewhere a little more out of the way could look into it  keep the noise down not to offend the people in surrounding apartments, it's worth a try isn't ? UNLESS someone already given it a go and have failed

  • blue, shock horror, I AGREE WITH  YOU!!!  we need a bit of nightlife, i'm not that old either and i found myself going over to adeje last time i was in los gigs!! i love los gigs a lot more than the very built up areas further south but at least  you can go to a bar, listen to decent music, and look around you and notice that there is a mix of ages and not just 60+....

why do we have to have old dogs old tricks, baz knight etc everywhere. i dont even bother going to see them! we ended up watching the show at the barcelo most nights..... yawn.......  in adeje there were some great irish lads playing in a few of the bars, great craic, not overly loud, not overly late.... wouldnt someone bring them to los gigs the odd night, i'm sure bar sales would double!!! the only decent people to come up to los gigs is bitter and twisted!  its always packed so there is obviously call for someone different, the acts i mentioned earlier certainly DO NOT HAVE PACKED HOUSES!!!

come on someone, lets encourage the youth, they spend more than the oldies and they dont sit in los gigantes hotel all night either!

    phew....

ps they eat more aswell so the restaurants would do better too!

  • Shock horror to you anall Janey. When I saw your name coming up I said to myself "Oh no here we go",so it's of as much as a surprise to me.
Anyway where are these Irish Lads in Adeje?is it the Dubliner you're talking about. If not let me know where they are please.
I've said all along that you put some good Irish bands on & you have it made.
The Irish bar 111 down the road (Paddys something or other) has to my knowledge never had one irish act on it's puff.
So I wonder who would be the first bar round here to make lotsa wonga if you were to put these guys on?

  • Hi all, just popped in to add a comment - yes the nightlife in los gig is dire! Even in the little town in the uk that I live in has pubs that are open until 1.30 with dj's or live bands or both. Ok, I admit to being over 55 but I like my music loud and proud. And the idea that everything has to stop at midnight is abysmal, especially to to those of us who come on holiday. We primarily come to Tenerife for the weather, but we aint averse to partying to 3 am!

  • it makes me laugh, all the business'es complain its quiet but, no one actually does anything about encouraging the tourists to stay in los gigantes!!!   this new bus service is just going to ship everyone out for a night in las americas, which could make the local bars quieter.......

i think its time to lift the midnight curfew and join in with the real world!

  • Noise pollution is such a big obstacle to overcome for those providing late night entertainment in residential areas thanks to our European Nanny state which has over legislated to the extent that carnivals have to finish early and churches even have to stop ringing their bells early in the morning.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/05/27/wbells27.xml

Dire news though that hotel occupation in the municipality in May was at 52% altogether, with Puerto  Santiago at 45%, Playa Arena at 64% and Los Gigantes at 46%.

  • Not as residential as LG Janey. LG is such a small confined place with lots of older residents who go to bed early and would complain about regular late night noise.

i actually think you are wrong there falstaff! the village needs more of a balance to keep things going. these old people going to bed early might be only doing that cos there is nothing to keep them up!!

  • From what I can gather, the Bamboo bar had trouble with late night music recently when a resident complained. There is hardly anywhere in LG that is not close to residential property.  Modern sound proofing materials and construction techniques can contain loud music to some extent (apart from the booming base sounds) but most buildings were designed without them.

I agree with you Janey. TJquote s is frequented by middle aged and older people who  may stay out later if they could but many of the elderly residents at the hotel would not like it at all.  In LG I have often sat out on a balcony after midnight with a bottle of wine and nothing to do but watch the stars and  listen to 50cc motorbikes. I donquote t know what Iquote d do without the Manx Shearwater.

There should be some late night entertainment but where?  The only place I can think of that has not been fully developed, is the area shown around the proposed new marina  development, some distance away from residential property.  I also understand that the waters around the marina  may soon be dredged for sand for beaches in the North. This may allow use of a bigger marina by bigger boats which could be used for late night offshore entertainment.

The Council should have a published tourism strategy for dealing with the problem of the declining tourism industry. I wonder what they have to say?

  • There are several soundproof bars in the area with late night entertainment, I think they are allowed to stay opon until 5am.
There is one right under all your noses in central Los Gigantes very near the church.  At midnight the doors close and the fun continues without disturbing those who do not want to join in.  There is at least 1 other soundproof disco near the Barcello Santiago Hotel and certainly 2 more very large bars in Playa arena that have live music each night.

  • i have never noticed the one near the church????.......  or is it as salubrious as the one near the barcelo, which in april had some sort of police raid?  this one tends to keep itself pretty much to itself and certainly doesnt welcome tourists, sorry!

as for the bars in playa - which ones?  there is one called waikiki but, again, not for tourists.

  • Wrong Janey.

The late sound proofed bar beside the church in Los Gigantes is certainly not salubrious.  In fact in the early evening they provide family entertainment.  After midnight it may be just a disco, but not sure.

There is a respectable sound proofed disco opposite the Barcello Santiago hotel, don't know what is called but it's up some steps between Route 66 and the Courtyard.  (There is also the other you mention in that area that I choose not to talk about).

Playa Arena, opposite the beach, lower level, you've got El Granyero, the other one that I am not allowed to mention the name of, and  The Blarnet Stone.  All 3 are very large, nicely done out and all have entertainment or disco.  2 of them (or possibly all 3) are sound proofed and are very late bars.
