  • Does anyone apart from the supermarket sell fresh fish - in many places you can go down to the harbour and buy direct from the local fishermen does anyone do this in LG, / Playa Arena area or is there a small fresh fish market and if so when?   Thanks

  • I do remember my last visit to LG and that a new restaurant had opened on the marina at the far end which sold and served fresh fish.

With a number of posts on here about cetain restaurants not serving fresh veg etc and food being frozen and microwaved I was wondering if this was a sign of the times and being hit by the recession for restaurants not to throw food away.

Only an observation and hopefully some feedback

  • Chiquita,
You might be lucky if you get down to San Juan harbour at about 0800. Most of the catches are already boxed up for various clients.

There is a small fresh fish shop in Alcala also another in San Juan. Both shops have limited choice but the fish is mostly fresh.
Mercadona is your best bet. Lots of choice but the majority of the fish is imported.

Thanks for your comments - I thought that might be the case as an acquaintance is staying in the area in a few weeks time and asked - so it is about the same as here.  We all need to move to Las Galletas  ;)

  • The fresh fish shop in Alcala is very good.

Go over the roundabout into Alcala then take the second turn on your right.  The fresh fish shop is about half way down the street on your right.

  • Dolly,
    They have moved.
    First turning right, past Toni's.
Half way down the street on the left.
Its a new shop and they have their own small trawler so most of the fish is local.

  • It must be a new fish shop that has recently opened.  The shop I was talking about in my last post was open last Monday as we collect their scraps twice a week for our very popular stingray feeding dive. I  will check it out when I am there tomorrow.
