Flying out Christmas Eve

  • Hi,

I don't suppose anyone is flying out Christmas Eve are they?

We land at 19.25 and I hear cabs will be few and far between and being a holiday if we do find one will be very expensive (which is understandable).

If anyone else was coming over at this time maybe we could share the cab maybe?

We have been offered a lift from someone who lives out there via another message board but as this is a complete stranger, and also I think they live in Americas I feel it may be a bit out of their way to be coming to get us so I want to look at other options.

Anyone got any other ideas, we are mostly concerned about being stranded! Neither of us want to hire a car and drive.

This will be our first time to this part of the Island and also first time away for Christmas.  We cant wait!!! We are just concerned about getting there from the airport at the moment.   ???

We are staying in Puerto De Santiago.

    Thanks

  • Christmas eve is NOT a bank holiday and you will not be arriving after hours so the tarrif should be the same, (Christmas day would be another matter) why dont you download the address form in Spanish from the local taxi boys web site www.losgigantestaxis.com -  it gives the tarriff and extras-  if after hours that you can expect.

The shops here stay open late on Christmas Eve so everyone can do their last minute shopping! so everything will still be buzzing when you get here. Mercadonna in Playa de la Arena is open until 9 anyway - only dont expect to get fresh bread!!

It is highly unlikely that you will be stranded!!!, but Christmas day will be quiet when you wake up the next morning! -  although there are still plenty of restaurants open
There is no boxing day bank holiday here so everything is back to normal on the 26th of December.

    Enjoy your stay

  • Really? Oh I see. I've been told its the main holiday in Spain so it would be treated in the way we treat Christmas Day.

I will have a look at that tariff, thanks

  • Ive done some digging around and telephoning and am unable to get a pre-booked taxi. They are flat out refusing to commit themselves being Christimas Eve!

I understand there is a taxi service which we could get from the airport to Los Christianos, then another Los Gigantes.

Ive looked on the bus website and cant find the info of these routes. Does anyone happen to know if this is the case?

I may telephone them and check, it would be an option for us anyway I fugured.

    thanks

  • Try out the taxi firm on this website (advertsing on the 1st page) I'm not sure if I'm allowed to mention them - I'm sure I'll be moderated if I'm out of line.
    they are www.losgigantestaxis.com
they have an agreement with the airport taxis, there is no need to pre book just download the instructions in English, I think it's about 42euros, I know you can get cheaper elsewhere but  at least you know you will definately get a taxi doing it this way.

  • Hello there, the 25th of December is a bank holiday and most of the taxi drivers are NOT working and most of the supermarkets, like Mercadona will definetly be CLOSED.
We do run a airport service company as well ourself (not telling the name, but most of the peole in Los Gigantes know us anyway), bute we are not working on the 25th and not on the 1st of January.
But you can try with other Services. I dont know if they are working, but try. At the airport to wait for a taxi will most proberbly be night mare.
    Regards, Ronald.

  • We are leaving the uk on Christmas Eve at 1110hrs arriving at 1535hrs in Tenerife. I had booked with Elmar and had to change the times today. Had no problems with it. Hve used them before and up to now have been ok. Did the taxi touch last Christmas Eve, very expensive (80 Euros if my memory serves me right) and they dropped us at the wrong apartments, had to walk the rest of the way. I am trying to find our what time Mercadona and Transito close on Christmas Eve coz I hope to get some bits to see us thro' the next couple of days. Are you looking forward to you hols as much as I am ??

  • Put your other glasses on please, no I am not wanting to share a cab or anything else for that matter, I am the one that has booked (and paid for) Elmar. I was just commenting that I have had a cab at Christmas and paid dearly for it. If you think paying a third of the flight price on a cab (one way remember) is ok then you have more money than sense. Hope this clarifys things for you

  • Hi Gigi
I was wondering if you had managed to find out if the Transitos Supermarket and/or Netto will be open on Sunday 24th December. Thanks for the information that the other supermarket will be closed. We are arriving late on Saturday 23rd so  would like to know if I will need to bring supplies with us to tie us over for a few days.
    Thanks
WILL TRY TO GET THERE TO ASK THIS WEEKEND AND LET YOU KNOW

  • Hi, I've always used El Mar Services. You can actually book on line but it's best to call them. Their website is  DELETED

I have never been let down by them and it is 56 euros return for the both of you although you can pay each way separately which will be 28 euros between you for a single leg journey.

  • Thanks Gigi, I too am flying out on Christmas Eve and for the life of me cannot find out if  Transito is open, and if so what time they close. Could also do with details of Netto, opening hours directions etc. We are stopping at the Sunset apartments in Santiago. Can't wait. It is now 9.23am and it is still dark and peeing down.

  • Thank you all for your help. I found the Transitos located on the map on this website so now I have an idea of where I am going.
We are looking forward to our first trip to Tenerife. The information on this website and the forum is great for first timers.
