Hi all, BA have stopped flying to the Canaries and cannot find anyone under 600 quid to get over for XMAS. Easy Jet are flying there and their flights are coming out at the beginning of April but I just don't want to fly with them but looks like I'm going to be forced to if I want to spend my 9th year over there.
Is anyone else having this problem and if not, who are people flying with and how much?
I normally come over around the 13th December for a month so I miss the expensive flights but just thought I'd throw it out to see what others are doing this year.

  • I also usually fly out from Gatwick to Tenerife with BA around 13 December to avoid paying extortionate prices and stay for three weeks each year. Am also booked to go out on one of their last flights to the island in March. Have never flown with Easyjet but the Airline TV programme doesn't inspire confidence!  There are often reasonable deals to be had with Monarch although looking at their website, they're not yet taking bookings for next Christmas.  Thomsonfly is another alternative that I've used.

  • Hi, thanks for reply. Monarch is doing it for around 650 quid, thomson is similar price, suppose we'll have to wait for easy jet, it's really annoying as you're only allowed 20kg whereas we used to get away with about 28kg with BA and when you're going away for a month you do need that amount, oh well doesn't look like I'll be taking me christmas cake and christmas pudding this year lol

  • Yes, flight prices at holiday times are utterly maddening !

The answer to the luggage weight limit problem is to wear all of your clothes and eat the Xmas pudding and cake before coming out !!!

20 kilos is more than enough for me but my teenage daughter, well..............

We'll be trying Monarch out of Gatwick again as I believe that you can't even get seat numbers in advance with easyjet ??? We'll see how our rebooked April flight goes with the orange ones now that BA can no longer be bothered to fly to Tenerife.

  • Don't panic over Easy Jet. I have flown with them over 10 times and they are fine. Good flights, good Aircraft and friendly staff.  :)

Also don't believe everything you see on the tv. Some of the people are actors, yes actors, just to spice the show up. I know, my friend was hired to appear on Airline. :o

You know what they say, all advertising is good advertising. I'm sure Easy Jet prices at Xmas will be better than other Airlines.  ;D ;D ;D

  • GROCKLE,
Monarch are at around 650 quid at the moment to fly out over xmas and new year, think they are so high because they know BA aren't going out and people are panicking about not getting flights.
I've been told EasyJet's ones won't be coming out til end of July, usually I've booked mine up by January but I'm hanging on til EasyJet flights come out to see the price.
Found excelairways are doing it for around 300 quid return but nothing to come home on 6th jan as they have all sold out. Anyway unless Easyjet comes up with a decent price then it looks like we all won't be coming out for the first time in I think 8 years.
    Watch this space lol !

  • who knows maybe ba will take it over directly next winter if enough people keeping asking them. Re easyjet quite a lot of the gb airways crew are going to easyjet so you may still seee familiar faces.

no chance!! ba are saying 'stuff the regionals', they are only interested in london!  easy jet have purchased the gb air craft, kept all the staff too.

it will be interesting.... but, i dont mind who runs the flights as long as they are at good prices and timings!  not so sure about this 'no seat numbers issued - free for all' - can see a few punch ups!!!

may is so expensive at the moment - we were looking to book, but, its too dear! :o

  • I have just spent 20 minutes on the internet looking at flights. Chose Manchester at random and 20th of December for 2 weeks. Easily found the following...........

    www.flydeals.co.uk (0800 975 9996)                  336 Pounds Return
    www.travelrepublic.co.uk (020 8974 7200)          254 Pounds Return (7 days)     350 Pounds (14 days)
    www.skybargaing.co.uk (0800 015 8022)            369 Pounds Ruturn

There appear to be cheaper flights out there if you look for them !!!  ;D

  • Unfortunately I don't think it is a 'quick change' in Spain. I think it extends the overall journey time to about 11 hours - whch would not be fun.

Flights in August are pretty steep too and I don't think that the London airports are being favoured. The good old scenario of supply & demand rears its head.

Plan B of course is to book a dirt cheap package to Las Americas and then not use the accommodation.

    We shall overcome.

  • Is that each ? or for a family of four ???

Some hope eh ?  Peak flight prices are falling into the three to four hundred pounds per head bracket now. Might have to go and join Sebastian in the Caribbean instead.

  • For those that are unaware, there is a low cost Spanish operator www.clickair.com that do cheap flights to Tenerife from Barcelona, couple this with a low cost flight with Ryanair or EasyJet from the UK to Barcelona and you might just get a really good deal.  Yea, I know the hassle of changing planes, especially for families, but it might be worth it.  Another flight search engine that is good is www.airninja.com and, before you ask its NOT Japanese!

Flights at Christmas and the New Year have always been expensive but now many are just rediculous, oh aren't I glad I live in Tenerife so don't need to travel at peak times.

  • We too are struggling to get flights - we live in the middle of the UK and the best we can do so far is ?470 each.  We also are still working so are limited to the dates we can fly.

Does anyone know when Ryanair and Thompson release their winter flights.  We really don't know whether to bite the bullet now and pay through the nose, or to wait until these are out.
