  • How has the Puerto Santiago Fiesta been going?  I was very disappointed on having to leave on Friday 3 July when everything was being prepared for the party.

  • We've not been able to get to fiesta this year - have to be up at 7.30 each morning for work.  Managed to stay awake to watch the fireworks from our terrace.  They were very good but the display was much shorter than in previous years, but that's to be expected given the current situation.

If anyone has photos and would like to write an article about the fiesta, email it to me and I will post it in our news.

  • Fireworks were nothing short of SPECTACULAR !!
We took up a stance on the coastal path and got the full effect and atmosphere including the flotilla showing their appreciation.

As a regular visitor to the Edinburgh Fringe and London New Year parties, the PS fireworks put them to shame!

  • I also missed them this year as we also left LG on the 3rd. If they were anything like last years, then they would of been fantastic, it was the best firework display we've ever seen.

  • If you can wait the Alcala fireworks in the middle of August are the most spectacular that we have ever seen.

  • The fireworks were fabulous this year and we timed them. They lasted half an hour and were the best yet. Amazing view from my apartment. Well done Santiago.

  • The Fiesta is trundling along as always.

The firework display was probably a similar length to previous years, but it was noticable that it was less spectacular than previous years (less of the really expensive huge aerial ones) - as before though, not unsurprising.

As for the rest of the event?  Well, frankly it is tired.  It's the same two fun-air rides as it has been for the past 10 years or so, the very loud wizzy round thing and the incredibly outdated (but slightly quaint) rodeo ride.

My honest opinion (not influenced at all by the fact that it is yards from my bedroom window!), is that it is too long.  Last night being a classic example when, despite the rides belting out their music and so on, there were very few people wandering around, as was the case on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday last week.

This year the event will have run for 12 days (2 more I think than last), but in all honesty it could all have been condensed into a week and would have probably benefitted from doing so.  Of course I appreciate the dates are set around the 16th (Saint's Day of our good lady), but the time may well have come for a rethink.

The local restaurants immediately opposite would agree I'm sure, as neighbours of ours, we know they are already having their worst trading year ever, and the Fiesta brings them no business - last night for example the Tapas bar had just 2 covers - me and the missus !!

As with most other things in life, it is a sign of the times.......

  • PS

It is good to note that half a dozen public toilet cubicals have been provided this year for (I think) the first time, a few more would be appreciated as would some signs to their location.  You have no idea what delights have to be hosed away every morning from our garages and entrance steps.

    Not nice.

It has always amazed me that the concept of what goes in will inevitably come out seems alien to Fiesta organisers!!

Alcala fireworks are always on 15th August no matter what day of the week it is.  Kick off is around midnight, rarely earlier, often half an hour or so late.  It's well worth booking to view the fireworks from one of the tour boats which depart from Los Gigantes Marina

  • Great !  We're off to LG this year on 14th August, so will be just in time.  We missed them last year as didn't realise they were on - heard lots of music and celebrating going on in the Marina last year and wondered what was happening.  We found out the next day and so missed out on the fireworks.  They're on a bit past my bedtime, but I'll try and stay awake !
